For those of you interested in the Upper Devonian (Burkett +) here is a good article.  I had heard a Consol executive’s comment on their Upper Devonian test well that they were not experiencing the expected production decline, instead, there was very little decline.  Consol’s Andrea Passman, director of engineering for gas operations, addressed this anomaly near the end of the article.  I’m assuming that this “yet to see a production decline” is location and completion dependent.

Philip thanks for this informative article.   Info here is the Gas in Place map of the Upper Devonian covering Ohio, WV, PA;   Andrea Passman's discussion under the heading "Structurally driven" is enlightening on the pressure of a stacked pay well.  Also her comments about the fact that the pressure used to frack the well as well as the pressure used to deplete it is critical to stacked laterals.

Searcherone,

As I mentioned above, my interest was piqued when I heard “no decline” in their Upper Devonian well from a Consol executive.  Range and Rex have drilled a lot of Burkett (Upper Devonian) wells and no one from those companies has ever said such a thing.

It is interesting to note that the Consol plan for the Pittsburgh Airport includes Upper Devonian wells.

Here is the Consol view of stacked pays in the PA, WV, OH region:

The yellow area at the West end of Allegheny County is the Consol Pgh Airport property.

Phil,   Several companies are drilling Utica wells in Tyler Co, WV and from Consol's map  I see why as they are drawing the Utica line through Tyler and Wetzel.  I was expecting the Utica to go further east in WV.   It remains amazing to me how some of the best acreage of this play borders the Ohio River and essentially that is where Consol is drawing the stacked pay areas.

The northern panhandle counties of WV appear to have four paying zones.

Thanks again for great info.

Now I see what you meant by stacked plays. The property in Allegheny County is within three of the four, and we have another up in Clarion that appears to be in all four (close to the border of the Rhinestreet, though). Not much happening in Clarion, though, but good to know, regardless.
