I am looking for a lawyer with integrity who will help me address an issue with a gas company that is taking improper deductions from my royalty check when my lease contract clearly states that these deductions are not permitted.

My discussion with two lawyers offering themselves as gas lease experts left me very disappointed. One lawyer asked me to sent him copies of my lease and check statement, after reading my lease he informed me that the gas company was in their rights. I brought to his attention the fact that the lease addendum superseded the condition that he cited from the main body of the lease contract. He admitted that I was correct and reversed his opinion of the gas company being right. He offered his services at $250 per hour. Another lawyer asked me to sent him a copy of my lease and check statement, responding to my issue I was told that the amount being deducted is of a small amount. This gas company began deductions several months ago and continues these deductions which currently amount to a few thousand dollars. He stated that he could pursue my case and his fee would be $300 per hour.

Would someone please explain to my simple mind how these two lawyers can offer themselves as experts with these types of comments to my issue? Is there a lawyer out there that knows what he is doing?

I don't have an issue with their fees if I am being provided a professional service, but my experience and first impression of their responses leaves me less than confident in their professionalism. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What state?

My lease property is in north central Pa.

Is the company Chesepeake???  Someone probably already sued for the same problem you have. You  should do some research and try to find  case law/ precedent on how judges rule for your specific problem.

What did the addendum state??  Was it market enhancement?

Anyway if these guys can't help you I'm sure they can point you to someone local who can. Looks like they have a class action lawsuit going for same problem  you described

Don't walk run. I have found that usually I can do better than an attorney for myself. Those guys are clowns. Once I hired attorney supposed to a good one all he did was plea bargain. he wanted me to accept whatever offer the prosecutor wanted just so he could take my money and go home. I refused, the plea. The law said they had to dismiss the case if the time limit was reached. I refused to plea and case was dismissed. Supposedly he has a rep for being the best defense attorney but he was worthless as dog shit and cost me $5,000 for 2 days

Since then i do all my legal work myself. Deeds, Title Searches, Liens on Estates etc . When i file for Affidavit of Forfeiture I will do myself also. I have never done a contract dispute.
