I have been reading alot of discussions & I can't help but wonder why mid-western Pa isn't a bigger hot spot that it is?? I read about all the surrounding counties getting wells and leases, even in Ohio where Marcellus is very thin.  Gas companies would get two for the price of one?? I feel a little bewildered.

What counties would you define as Mid-western PA?
beaver, lawrence, mercer....ect.
from what I understand that far west the Marcellus is too shallow and there's not enough pressure on the formation. I believe that is going to be more of a sweet spot for the Utica. However, to the east where the Marcellus is good, the Utica may be too deep to be commercially viable to produce from.

Best of luck!

That's my neck of the woods.
Drilling is starting to pick up in Clarion County
thats about an hr east of us...maybe theres more going on in the surrounding area and I just haven't really heard about it? any view points from readers??
Elnathan, have you heard about any drilling in the area??
let me ask. Do you know if any of the O & G Co's been actively leasing land in beaver county

I have seen drilling in and around Youngstown on TV and that is even farther west.

Western PA appears to be awakening now. East Resources has been actively signing land owners for leases in Lawrence County. They are about to drill in Little Beaver Twp very shortly. If that well is a productive one then I suspect things to heat up. I was told by a landsman form East that they plan on bringing in 30 rigs very soon.

I don't believe everything I here, but only time will tell. It is just a shame that a 2nd company has not come into Lawrence County to add some competition to East for available leases. As it is now I have been conversations with a Landsman form East with an offer of $1,500/Acre and 15% royalty. Anybody have any better offers?
Thanks Rick...I agree its hard to believe everything one hears. We are currently looking into joining a new castle landowners group. I also heard that in January 2011 activity will pick up greatly. Once again though..do you believe everything you hear??
Just last night I was doing some research and found a recent Memorandum of a lease in Lawrence County for Range Resources. The property in question was a golf course. I do not know the details, but someone else is finally in Lawrence County to give East some competition.

Keep your fingers crossed.
