Ohio horizontal permits issued this week.....33    got to be a record for one week. Noticed a lot of camper trailers filling up lots in Guernsey co. lately.  What up wit dat?   just sayin!

where did you see  that 33 permits have been issued in ohio this week it is only wensday

Eighteen horizontal permits were issued during the week that ended Oct. 3, and 21 rigs were operating in the Utica Shale.

I just read it on ODNR website for the week ending October 10th:

33 permits in five counties by five companies

This info is always published on ODNR website by Tuesday evening

Permits are extremely cheap in Ohio... (An operator can get 7 expedited well permit applications in Ohio compared to 1 PA well permit application and 13 Ohio well permits to 1 in WV) so I would venture to guess a lot of operators have the mentality of "if there's a chance to drill it lets permit it just in case". Also permits are good for two years in a non-urban area where a lot of drilling occurs so time and money are usually not a problem.

They are continuing to drill with no market for their product? Prices are rock bottom. They are stealing from their well owners now...this is only going to get worse.

What is the maximum time period in the states of OH and PA between when permits are issued and the time they expire w/o drilling.

2 Years in Ohio. Unsure of PA.

No, you need to file a new permit application asking for renewal with a $250 fee. Also,there are two types of well permits in Ohio: non-urban area are good for 2 years and urban permits are good for 1 year.
PA 1 year but extension is fairly easy.

Correct me someone if I am wrong on this.  Once the permit is given the landowner is in a unit.   Therefore  if any lease bonus was due that is over when the property goes into a unit.

For example Eclipse Resources is attempting to modify the lease payments on a number of leases in SE Ohio.  Instead of paying the lump sum for a five year extension they want to  pay on a yearly basis.  If in the second year the property went into a drilling unit there would be no more lease money paid.

Looks like making drilling units may be a way to save money.

I don't think that just getting a permit and creating a drilling unit is enough activity to justify not having to re-do the lease and bonus $ at the end of the 5 years. Check your lease and read it REAL good! Seems like every time you read it, you find something you missed,or didn't pertain at the time. Most leases state that they have to at least drill a hole.  This is the oil&gas business though,so they may try anything they think they can get away with.If they can get an ignorant landowner to sign something unaware, it may be too late. snoozeyoulose.

My lease had a "continuation of activity" clause that would hold the lease past expiration. The activities listed were wellpad construction, access road construction, seismic testing, etc. However, there is also a clause that says drilling must commence within 6 months of the pad being finished, or the lease ends. CHK has done all these things over the last six months, except drilling the well. My lease was due to expire Oct. 18th; they renewed with a check. Just wish it wasn't CHK.
