As 2014 limps to a close, I propose an unofficial contest to nominate the song that best describes the 2014 Marcellus/Utica Experience.

Rules:

The contest ends at Midnight, December 31st.

You can submit as many entries as you choose to.

The winner to be chosen by our Publisher (Keith Mauck); if he is willing to accept that daunting challenge, (otherwise it will have to be me).

The Prize: one Cyber Ham Sandwich (and bragging rights).

My first entry: A song many of us can relate to,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahAOU1HZXlc

My second entry: A sad song about trying to get out of a lease with Chesapeake Energy,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6S9ecXWCBCc

Can you match (or better) either of these entries?

Sage59 reminded us of the loss of Joe Cocker. That made me think of an entry for this contest.

This site is all about friends helping each other, with that I give you my submission;

"A Little Help From My Friends"

http://en.musicplayon.com/play?v=283328

I've seen him perform this many times over the years but this is one of my favorites because this comes from the greatest rock concert ever, Woodstock.

"You Can't Always Get What You Want"

I saw her today at the reception
A glass of wine in her hand
I knew she would meet her connection
At her feet was a footloose man
No, you can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometime you find
You get what you need
I saw her today at the reception
A glass of wine in her hand
I knew she was gonna meet her connection
At her feet was a footloose man
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes well you might find
You get what you need
And I went down to the demonstration
To get my fair share of abuse
Singing, "We're gonna vent our frustration
If we don't we're gonna blow a 50-amp fuse"
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes well you just might find
You get what you need
I went down to the Chelsea drugstore
To get your prescription filled
I was standing in line with Mr. Jimmy
And man, did he look pretty ill
We decided that we would have a soda
My favorite flavor, cherry red
I sung my song to Mr. Jimmy
Yeah, and he said one word to me, and that was "dead"
I said to him
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You get what you need
You get what you need--yeah, oh baby
I saw her today at the reception
In her glass was a bleeding man
She was practiced at the art of deception
Well I could tell by her blood-stained hands
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You just might find
You get what you need
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You just might find
You get what you need

GUNS N' ROSES LYRICS

"Patience"

1,2,1,2,3,4
[whistle]
Shed a tear 'cause I'm missin' you
I'm still alright to smile
Girl, I think about you every day now
Was a time when I wasn't sure
But you set my mind at ease
There is no doubt
You're in my heart now

Said, woman, take it slow
It'll work itself out fine
All we need is just a little patience
Said, sugar, make it slow
And we come together fine
All we need is just a little patience
(patience)
Mm, yeah

I sit here on the stairs
'Cause I'd rather be alone
If I can't have you right now
I'll wait, dear
Sometimes I get so tense
But I can't speed up the time
But you know, love
There's one more thing to consider

Said, woman, take it slow
And things will be just fine
You and I'll just use a little patience
Said, sugar, take the time
'Cause the lights are shining bright
You and I've got what it takes
To make it, We won't fake it,
I'll never break it
'cause I can't take it

[whistle]
...little patience, mm yeah, mm yeah
need a little patience, yeah
just a little patience, yeah
some more patience, yeah
need some patience, yeah
could use some patience, yeah
gotta have some patience, yeah
all it takes is patience,
just a little patience
is all you need *

I BEEN WALKIN' THE STREETS AT NIGHT
JUST TRYIN' TO GET IT RIGHT
HARD TO SEE WITH SO MANY AROUND
YOU KNOW I DON'T LIKE
BEING STUCK IN THE CROWD
AND THE STREETS DON'T CHANGE
BUT BABY THE NAME
I AIN'T GOT TIME FOR THE GAME
'CAUSE I NEED YOU
YEAH, YEAH, BUT I NEED YOU
OO, I NEED YOU
WHOA, I NEED YOU
OO, ALL THIS TIME **
(ah)

Tim,

If you change the words girl and woman, etc to the word "guys" I think this song works perfect.

That's a great call!

Kenny Rogers - The Gambler

I'm sure that most have read this article based in Carroll County. The article bring up both pros and cons. In my opinion the "ayes" have the day by far.  http://www.ohio.com/news/local/utica-shale-helps-family-save-carrol...  Three quotes from it stood out to me     1. “I never thought anything like this would happen in Carroll County,” said Jenkins, who acknowledged the family nearly lost the farm more than once over the years. “We were just dirt-ass-poor farmers struggling to get by.”  2. "He and his wife have vacationed in Hawaii, where he wore shorts and sandals for the first time in his life."  3. "Others love the county’s new drilling image. Last spring, it hosted its first Oil Barons Ball, a black-tie affair, to raise funds for Carroll County Arts."   ZZ Top boils it down as to why these things matter -- "Cause every girl crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man."       https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pn2-b_opVTo

ZZ TOP

"Sharp Dressed Man"

Clean shirt, new shoes
And I don't know where I am goin' to.
Silk suit, black tie,
I don't need a reason why.

They come runnin' just as fast as they can
'Cause every girl crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man.

Gold watch, diamond ring,
I ain't missin' not a single thing.
And cuff links, stick pin,
When I step out I'm gonna do you in.

They come runnin' just as fast as they can
'Cause every girl crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man.

Top coat, top hat,
I don't worry 'cause my wallet's fat.
Black shades, white gloves,
Lookin' sharp and lookin' for love.

They come runnin' just as fast as they can
'Cause every girl crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man.
