The article is not as bad as the following comments however.  Most comments are against drilling.  I posted a comment to defend the process.  I am not a gas person or anything.  I am a school teacher who lives in Bucks County and has 25 acres in Bradford. I have done a ton of research on the process but am by no means an expert.  As someone who has been through the leasing process and all that it entails, I felt I had a pretty good understanding of what is happening so I felt that I could make a rational, sound comment in favor of drilling.  Well, they deleted my comment and the account associated with my comment was deleted as well so that I cannot post anymore to it. This is an absolute disgrace!! First there was the one-sided "Gasland" and now the press is surpressing comments from people who agree with the drilling and only keeping the comments that disagree. So much for rational discourse amoung citizens and the right to free and protected speech! It could be just a coincidence that my post was deleted but my entire account??  I think not.

Merely debunking one-sided spin is not enough. It boils down to an issue of trust. For example, see what happens when authoritative voices attempt to use facts to defend development. These kinds of well-meaning efforts can even be counter-productive. Reversing the trend in public sentiment requires a more sophisticated approach. --Tom

FWIW- I just talked to an employee of a fracing company...he tells me these tidbits:

DEP isn't as friendly as some make them out to be....They actually approached gentlemen taking pictures of their frac site from the next hill over....he was an DEP employee. They said DEP was clandestinely watching their procedures. The workers told them fine, no problem. They have never yet been 'written up' even under closer scrutiny. And I have no problem either with that.

Then he says that at times DEP comes on the worksite dressed in normal work clothes and mingles with crews. Only the crew manager knows he is there and the only reason he knows is because he is responsible for all goings on at the site. He doesn't say a word to anyone.

So I don't believe the comments on how our regulators are in the pockets of the drilling companies....at least nowadays in our area. Get closer to Philly and maybe the money does flow between regulators and the regulated, i don't know but it DEP isn't in bed with anyone around here.
