A well on the western edge of the wet gas window had been producing for 8 months already when we watched them install a big tall skinny tank looking to be a separator.  This well is tied into an existing 4" gas line that all the clinton wells in the area tie into. My question is how could chesapeake produce this point pleasant well for 8 months without a separator and can a line built to service clinton wells handle the gas from this deep well?

Hey Mike:

I too would love to know more about this - there are some on GMS that could really provide input but I haven't seen them post recently.

Try Brian Powers - I have found him really helpful. Below his page..........

A separator is not always initially required for production. Your assertion that a separator was added later suggests to me that the well might be coughing up some liquids now or is belching up some accumulated fluids from the production tubing. All natural gas has the ability to contain liquid in vapor state; a rough rule of thumb is 1 bbl (42 gallons)water  per million standard cubic feet gas volume. The exact saturation amount is based on the gas and liquid properties, pressure and temperature.

Flow line size is determined by a variety of factors: expected flow rate, gas gravity and properties that impact friction loss along the line, well head pressure, length of the line, etc. A 4" line can handle a variety of flow parameters in my view and may be capable of many years' production before a compressor is required.

and Markus- thanks for the shout out, I really appreciate helping you folks out.

Hi Brian have a question is 8000.00 PSI good pressure at the flare, its been flaring for a few weeks drilled to 12,500.00 in the Utica its a dry gas well. Thank You

the well averaged about 30 barrels of oil per day for the first 8 months they have had 4 big tanks that look bigger than the 120 barrel tanks im used to seeing.  the well has made liquids from the beginning

mike-

Liquids are a good thing, a very good thing, especially if they are oily liquids...
