Nothing new here...just another environmentalists with Dr. in front of her name, thinking she can publish a flawed paper with little factual data and get away with it. She, and her colleagues, are nothing more than the highly educated "slackers" of the world.

These studies go something like this:

On November 30, 2011, the CDC and CDC Foundation issued this press release. 

 

At issue:

 

• ·       At the top of the press release are these words: CDC Foundation and CDC to address secondhand smoke exposure in nine states with high rates of tobacco use and tobacco-related disease however, this press release was announcing a future study to be conducted on the economic impact of smoking bans on bars and restaurants. 
• ·       The "study" is funded by Pfizer, maker of Chantix - the no smoking drug. 
• ·       In this press release, the Director of the CDC announced that smoke-free policies do NOT harm business, that the perception that it does poses barriers to further implementing these policies. 
• ·       The CDC will then, upon completion of this "study", compile educational materials for business groups and businesses.
• ·       RTI International is to conduct this "study".  The CEO of RTI International was quoted in this interview as saying:

o   We have the best technology in the world, so we should focus on prevention and healthy habits, as opposed to treating disease. Obesity, substance

              abuse, alcoholism and smoking are all health issues in which behavioral interventions can go a long way toward reducing their impact and lowering total          

              healthcare costs.

 

This "study" has a PRE-DETERMINED OUTCOME.  It is funded by the maker of Chantix.  This is an intentional cover-up of the losses to bars from smoking bans.  The CEO of the so-called non-biased company thinks we should focus on behavioral interventions.

Anne,

The anti movement lost steam with their claims of fracing contaminating local aquifers. They are now trying to paint a different picture, fracing is responsible for many health issues. What they are attempting is to feed their friends in the media more fear mongering and hope some of it sticks. Pitiful. At some point these people need to be held to a standard of properly supporting their assertions - before they can disseminate misinformation. Thanks for calling Dr. McKenzie to the mat.
