Well, at least our appointed WV Governor hasn't directly handed the regulatory process over to the O&G industry, like PA has...
This is truly unfortunate for PA...
Can the PA governnor spell, litigational quagmire ?

After reading both articles I don't see how they backup your above statement. I certainly would want more of the folks that know the industry making decisions versus those that have no real knowledge in said industry. Lets face it environmentalists, need a problem to survive, and if they don't have one, then they manufacture one in most cases. Heck, the one article is even spreading known lies... I take info like this with a grain of salt. If you really want to do something to help save the environment in WVA, i suggest you take a look at surface coal mining.
Our area has just started drilling into the shales and I can honestly say that so far NONE of the problems everyone cries about have occurred. I also will tell you that if/when problems surface, I will be the first to report them.
Everyone needs to step back and chill out...then think rationally and responsibly at the same time when it comes to this drilling issue. I'm so tired of folks jumping off the deep end without finding out that it is the shallow end, until it is too late.
Sorry Guys, I am not an "environmentalist treehugger" or any other kind of extremist. I am a West Virginian who has watched our mountain tops be leveled, our waters and streams polluted and ruined, honest, hard working men and women killed by the score and their families left in abject poverty - over BIG COAL.
I have watched the coal industry exploit West Virginia and line it's pockets, at the cost of our citizens - who, for the majority, have not been equitably represented or educated about their rights and the value of their natural resources - and sold their coal for next to nothing, many generations ago.
I believe we should EMPLOY the most knowledgeable people in the industry - and incorporate fair and equal representation of all parties and interests involved - in the development of all of West Virginia's natural resources.
NOT SET UP AN "O&G CZAR", WITH HIS HANDS IN THE COOKIE JAR, TO MIND THE STORE.
I don't want to see the same thing that happened to us in the COAL INDUSTRY, to happen to us again, in the development of the MARCELLUS SHALE PLAY.
Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
