There is an old clinton well on my property. When it rains the water lays in a puddle around the casing of the well.  Gas bubbles can be seen surfacing in a 5 foot area around the casing.  The gas isn't coming from one defined spot but rather is seeping from many spots.  Is this a cause for concern or is it normal?  Do you think it is leaking from the smaller pipes and fittings or does this sound like a casing leak?  I will post pictures here soon.

Not sure if this is in Pa or Ohio but call your state's environmental agency immediately and please be extremely careful around that well or better yet,  don't go back at all.

You don't say how old it is.  Is it still in production? If so call the operator as well the proper state agency. Also, check other wells in the area especially ones the same age or older. And if your water well or a neighbor's is any where near it, check the water for gas.

The well was drilled in 1982 so it isn't that old.  The well produces about one hundred barrels of oil per year.
