Fairly new to all this as of May 2013. Live in Virginia with sisters in Pa. and cousins on the lease scattered all over. A few questions. We have signed with Rice for two properties. The 90 day period will be coming up the end of Feb. Are they legally required to send the signing bonus by then or let us out of our lease? I feel it is a disadvantage not living in Pa. although I was born in Washington, Pa. grew up in California , Pa. with parents and relatives buried in Greene county, Greensburg, and Claysville. My cousin has an attorney, but not sure if he is being aggressive enough. Besides this blog, are there any contacts in Greene County, Pa. who would be willing to discuss what is going on back there. Thanks. Always a Pennsylvanian. Debbie Pennell

Debbie, I've heard a lot of people say they've had good dealings with Rice Energy. They're a smaller outfit with the resources to drill these wells. As far as your payment order - I'd have to see the language.  My guess is that they are not legally bound to pay and once the 90 day period is up then you have to notify them they are late and my guess is that your payment order allows them an extra period of time to cure the problem.  My suggestion would be to reach out to Rice and try to get it top of mind for them that your date is coming up.  Also if they don't pay before the deadline then read the payment order carefully and submit your notice for late payment immediately.

I understand your concern and being here and in this industry does make a difference.  I pride myself in keeping up with all my contacts within these companies because those relationships get things done for my clients. But i can tell you its a full time job just staying in the loop here!

Good luck!

They are required to send the signing bonus by then or exercise an extension if in your lease. If not you would then send a letter from your attorney requesting a cancellation of the lease. I am dealing in Greene County with a title problem currently. Your cousin cannot really do anything until the time period expires on the lease.
