The group behind a charter amendment in Youngstown, Ohio is back again.

The Youngstown Community Bill of Rights, as the amendment is known, has been rejected twice by voters of the city. That's correct it has failed twice once in May and again in November. Supporters of the amendment said they will continue to place it on the ballot until it passes.

In the past I have posted that fractivism is a mental disorder, I was serious. A symptom of this disorder is a feeling of superiority. Members of the extreme environmental left believe they are intellectually and morally superior to others. Therefore, whatever they believe is the truth and must be accepted by we the inferior (even though we are the majority). They cannot abide their beliefs not being accepted. So we have repeated attempts to shove their agenda down our collective throat; the situation in Youngstown is a perfect example.

So what you might ask ? Because their views are dangerous and destructive. The language of the charter amendment would have far reaching negative effects. Having spoken with the proponents of the amendment I can tell that those negative effects are unintended, yet these elitists persist.

The amendment, if passed, would virtually ban all economic activity surrounding oil and gas production.  Sadly, Youngstown is one of the most depressed economies in the nation, unemployment is rampant. The location, in Youngstown, of businesses associated with the oil and gas industry would offer the prospect of a better life for the poor of the city. The elitists don't care, their cause is far nobler than improving the lives of those peons.

The amendment would allow for enforcement by every citizen of the city. This is insanity, it would certainly lead to violence as one neighbor confronts another over silly things such as the exhaust from a lawn mower. If you think I am exaggerating then I suggest you read the entire amendment.

Finally, and perhaps most important, the amendment is unenforceable. Contained in the language of the amendment is wording that states that the amendment would supercede the Constitutions of the State of Ohio and the United States. If the city attempted to enforce the amendment it would certainly infringe the constitutional rights of individuals and businesses which would result in a multitude of law suits. At a time when the city struggles to balance a budget the extra expense of defending against the lawsuits could send the city into financial turmoil.

Well, you might believe that this is of no concern to you, guess again. As I have stated before, this effort is a road show. Once they find a foothold somewhere they take their perverted philosophy to other unsuspecting communities. So it is here in the Mahoning Valley: there is now an attempt to have such an amendment passed in nearby Niles. If successful in either of these cities it won't be long before this effort stretches from Newton Falls OH, to New Castle PA. Then on down the Beaver River Valley, and beyond.

I'll leave you with this final thought; you may feel safe from these radicals where you live. Your sense of security is a false one. The goal of these folks is grand; first cities, then townships, then counties, then whole states banning oil and gas development. Think it can't happen ? Ask David from NY, the moratorium (ban) in NY is on it's sixth year with no end in sight.

What can you do? Every time you hear someone utter a fractivist lie confront them and correct it. Write letters to the editor in favor of oil and gas development. Attend government meetings and during the public comments period speak in favor of oil and gas development. Write your legislators expressing your support for oil and gas development; and expressing your displeasure with legislation that overly limits that development.

Be afraid ! Be very afraid ! Act!

and don't limit your actions to just stopping the fracking foes in Youngstown. their superiority complex reaches into every aspect of lives.   educate yourself  to the  end result of progressivism.  and start back at teddy Roosevelt, woodrow Wilson and Margaret sanger.

gary,

Exactly right; radical environmentalism is just a subsidiary of Progressivism.

That Margaret Sanger was a scary character.

I think the idea of putting something on the ballot over and over again has to stop.  I realize everyone has the fredom of speech and I will defend that till my dying days, however, the people of Youngstown have spoken.  Twice now.  Why let them keep putting something on the ballot.  Their idea is that if they put it on over and over again, it will eventually pass.

I know in the Canton area ever since 2010 I have been challenging these nuts every chance I get.  Use to be there were a few that made comments in the Canton Repository and I would always respond with facts.  I was called almost every name in the book that you could put in print but you don't see those same people anymore posting about the oil and gas industry.  Do I think they have changed their minds, maybe but I doubt it.  They are just waiting in the dark shadows for us to crack a little and let down our gaurd.  Then they will spring into action and try to catch us off gaurd.

I agree Mark, we have to take a stand and present facts not hearsay like the antis do.  I am not real knowledgable in the oil and gas field.  I am a landowner who wants to protect my mineral rights and what I can do with them.  I may or may not be in a good area for drilling but I have seen first hand how farmers have struggled through the years trying to make ends meet.  I have seen family farms being sold off because the family can not pay the property taxes and so forth.   Most family farms like mine, do not make money.  We do it because we love the job and most have jobs outside of the farm.  Mine is my stress relief from my day job.  However, many family farms are on the verge of going under.  If they can sell their mineral they can stay afloat and a part of the American way will live on.  One the farm land is sold and houses are planted, the land never goes back to farm.  Let the farmers live their way of life and they will continue to feed the anti's and the rest of the world.

Like others have said, only in my humble opinion!

David,

The anti crowd usually point out that few jobs have been created so far (which isn't accurate).

But jobs is only one facet of the economic benefit of shale development.

I have made the point before that farming is a tough business and difficult to make a living. The bonus money and royalties are saving so many family farms. Plus the money those families spend help their local economies.

I speak to many people who say they aren't informed enough to speak out, I understand that issue. But a little research on this site and the web will give anyone enough info to destroy any argument presented by a radical environmentalist.

Mark, you are right about this site.  Back in 2010 I never even heard of the Marcellus let alone the Utica.  I was going out to bale hay and this landman stopped in, gave me his card and then left.  Smart move on his part because rain was coming and I didn't have time to talk!

I found this site and have been following it ever since.  I log in every day to try to keep informed about what is going on.  I feel I can challenge the Antis when and where I need to.  I know there are allot of people who post on here that know 100 times what I know and I value their opinions.  I work in the insurance industry not the oil and gas industry.  This site has helped me in many ways to keep abreast of what is going on.  It helped me when I was signing my lease although there are still some things I would like to change, like the market enhancement clause that is in mine, but on the same token, thanks to this site, I didn't sign for the original 200 per acre that was offered.

So anyone who reads the articles on this site, has more than enough information to debate an anti fracking person since those people have no facts at all to back up their words.

Hi, I am the other David, the one from Socialist New York. Mark and David you are right on point. Please keep up the good work of educating the mainstream people, they are the ones that will ultimately tip the scales one way or the other. It saddens me to think of what is going on in my state. I am currently selling the land I purchased in the southern tier of NY. I will reinvest these dollars in PA, taking my NY dollars out of state. The point of money leaving the state is lost on these socialist activists and their misguided politicians. They have no grasp of economics whatsoever. I hate to say this but maybe Donald Trump can save us. But I doubt it. Thanks again for your efforts!

I wonder if we tried to keep putting something on the ballot such as lowering monies for the school if we would be allowed to keep it up. It seems if you want more taxes it is ok. If you want it the other way then everyone loses their minds.

the anti-frackers are Obambacrats who think the economy of America is fueled on food stamps -huging trees- and don't  care about the hard working rural people who have struggled to work their land, pay their taxes and support the 3 generations of slackers who have lived off of the hand out system since 1932. Youngstown is a stronghold for the party who picked this leader to run our country and guess what…there are enough ignorant people in youngstown to vote against fracking …..look what the party picked to be their leader in 2008……they know that youngstown will vote like their leader in the white house thinks…no pipe lines…no drilling …screwed up health care…..and heat your house with medical grade hemp.

Oil Finger.

All of your post is Well Said !

If the independent farmer wasn't in the mix, people would be astonished at the cost of groceries, and now energy also.

What if all the Marcellus and Utica farmers joined a union and refused to lease?
