How are non-shale wells unitized?

Does anyone out there have experience about how non-shale wells, such as Trenton/Blackriver wells, are unitized?  How is it determined what lies under what property owner's land?

Such rules are under the purview of the individual States.

What would apply for NY would not necessarily apply for PA, WV, OH (and visa versa).

In Ohio, there are state minimum acreages per well, depending on depth. Your lease will also have something to say about unitization.
