Hydraulic Fracturing Is Fundamentally Safe.
I'll be brief;
65 years of hydraulic fracturing, which includes over 47,000 shale wells.
Not one cited incident of pollution due to hydraulic fracturing, not one.

Marc MeGrail...no one is saying they have anything against the drilling - it's what is NOT KNOWN about what is very seriously & quite possibly happening to our water that we DON'T understand yet that is being questioned (NOT 'misunderstood, but QUESTIONED with ***VALID CONCERN***).
There are no 'enemies' here. WHO KNOWS what is happening to the water - do you honestly? Neither do I.... Point.

Forget about it! - just sign here, shake hands, be happy & carry on!"
Jesse - you DO have alot to be concerned about...you SHOULD be worried.... Especially when it's STRONGLY 'put out there' that 'EVERYTHING'S A-OK'...THEN it's usually NOT.... Keep your about you, when all are losing theirs and blaming it on you...IF. You're right - *never doubt yourself - what would your granddad & grandma tell you? THAT should reinforce inner resolve...people have forgotten what's it's like to be a 'human being'. Give me some WATER - cool, cool water...can't remember exactly how that song went...something about COOL, COOL WA-TER!!!!...cool, clear water....
Don't MUDDY the water...water is pure. Keep your thoughts pure - we ALL need the water...and we ALL sure like the convenience of O&G. (but you gotta' 'keep it on the up & up'...)

There is no unknown to hydraulic fracturing. If you understand the procedure you will understand that it is implausible for the water table to be compromised by hydraulic fracturing.
What we do know is that for 65 years hydraulic fracturing has been used in the completion of over one million oil/gas wells. Included in that number is over 47,000 shale wells (including those in PA, OH, WV).
Not once has hydraulic fracturing caused pollution.

First off, let me say that I'm impressed that you were able to decipher the dumpster fire of word vomit that is GG's stock and trade. That in it of itself is deserving of some credit. But your point about the precautionary principle is off the mark. This isn't some new technology with drawbacks yet unknown. This is a practice that has been used routinely for decades and in the absence of contrary evidence is safe and effective. We're not living in the industrial revolution where pollution and worker deaths are common. This is 21st century America and we're using the power of technology that was invented by our own people to change the global energy landscape. You have every right to your opinions but that doesn't extent to you the privilege of speaking to a subject without any facts or scientific basis.
The thing that is most environmentally threatening about the drilling process is the setting of the pipe casing. That has been proven time and again. That aspect of the process can have devastating effects if done improperly and each state government is in charge of regulating that. What you're failing to conceptualize is how shale gas and oil extraction actually reduces the risk of problems associated with pipe casing and vertical drilling by virtue of the numbers. How many conventional wells would it take to equal the output (over the well's life) of one average shale well? Five? Seven? Ten? With each shale well drilled there are numerous conventional wells that don't need to be drilled in order to supply the rising demand.

The truth about Pavillion WY (LAT = LosAngeles Times, just like Jesse they got it wrong on Pavillion)
LAT: “In late June, the EPA dropped a study of possible contamination of drinking water in Pavillion, Wyo., despite its earlier findings of carcinogens, hydrocarbons and other contaminants in the water.”
FACT: Once again, what the Times left out here is absolutely critical for understanding the situation. After the release of the EPA’s preliminary findings in a draft report, state regulators criticized EPA’s methods, criticism that was bolstered by the Bureau of Land Management, which oversees oil and gas production on federal lands. The BLM said flat out that EPA’s testing procedures could have introduced “bias” into its samples, the same ones that the Times described as being linked to gas drilling. Later, a U.S. Geological Survey report registered at least 50 different measurements from EPA’s findings, including an effective disqualification of one of only two monitoring wells used by EPA.
The bottom line is that, if the EPA believed its preliminary conclusions were credible, it would have proceeded with peer-review. Instead, the EPA said it “does not plan to finalize or week peer review…[n]or does the agency plan to rely upon the conclusions in the draft report.” The investigation continues, of course, but it will be led by experts whose methods in Pavillion have not been questioned by multiple state and federal agencies.

with your approach we would still be back in the stone age. trust me...my get r done approach has worked very well for me and my family. learned a long time ago to ignore the naysayers. your long rambles may read well but they contribute nothing to the betterment of society! I am proud of how my get r done approach as employed hundreds of people over the years. I am proud of how my get r done approach has enabled me to give thousands of dollars over the years to the less fortunate. if I followed your approach many people would be worse off. and yes I do wear my license on my hat...my gun on my side and I do read the bible. very proud of that also. go accomplish something with your life then write me back!

I don't think that anyone is saying that frac'ing is unsafe, just that it could be unsafe.
some folks need something to fear. remember when you were afraid of the boogeyman?
this is the same thing. i'm sure that we all realize that it is impossible to prove anything 100% safe. even the purest drinking water will kill you if you drink too much of it.
I agree with mark. no one will ever convince these scaredy cats of the safety of the practice, but we should continue to call b.s. on their misinformation and doomsday scenarios.
