Their web site shows that they are planning seven wells in Albion only the last two wells

are labeled "horizontal".  What is the reason a company would drill both vertical and horizontal? My concern or question is that a small driller who knows or thinks he knows the geology is prolific and because the cost of drilling deeper is much more expensive could hold a lot of land HBP by drilling shallow wells and eventually attract the money or flip to a larger company?  This is a complicated game to a landowner and look for forums like this for information or feedback but the feedback is tighter than some formations.

Responding to an earlier point, the Beekmantown is actually part of a deeper sequence than the Utica/PP.  By drilling a vertical to the Beekmantown, the operator gets a "free" look at the Marcellus and Utica/PP as they drill through them.  A vertical well is likely the most effective way to recover hydrocarbons from the Beekmantown, and many (if not all) of the most prolific Beekmantown wells in OH and PA have been vertical wells.  The formation is typically not hydraulically fractured.  Not sure of this, but it may be acidized as a well bore clean-up and completion procedure.

Productive areas tend to be localized, so that not every Beekmantown well will be successful, even when using seismic.

Im general it is much less expensive to drill and complete a deeper vertical well, as compared to a shallower, or deep, horizontal well.

Thank you for your reply.  An informed landowner is much more comfortable and we appreciate quality feedback.

Based upon you reply I want to the web site of the Adameck#1 owner

and remembered what they said about what they were looking for.

Based upon their testing by Weatherford they elected to continue drilling.

The Rose Run formation will be our first target pay zone and it is located at approximately 7200 Feet. Indepth Exploration’s Industry Partner, Utica Resources, is of the belief that the Beekmantown Dolomite, the Theresa Dolomite and the Rose Run Sandstone formations are best along the push up running along Lake Erie from Ohio to New York State. Some of the biggest wells drilled in this part of the state are from those formations and run right along that push up and the Adameck #1 is located right at the base of that uplift.  Just 5 miles to the north of our prospect the depth of the formations can anticline from 7300 feet to 6400 feet.  The Rose Run Sandstone and the Beekmantown Dolomite has the potential to produce 750 barrels of oil per day and 3 million cubic feet of gas per day in each of those formations alone.

A response from the DEP web site when I subscribed to receive well permits from Erie County showed that a dust control permit listing Empire Energy E & P LLC as the client as well as Greenfield Township, Erie County.

Further research of their web site:   www.empireenergygroup.net  revealed that this company has significant interest in land both in New York and Erie County.  This is speculation on my part and all I know so far is what I am posting, but based upon the information on their web site they could be a good fit to drill on our property.

Has anyone had any dealings or have heard about this company?

I have not heard from SLC Energy the company that leased more land near Adameck#1 and supposedly

says it has leased around 2,000 acres and has 10+ sites to drill more wells.  A permit may have been issued for their Albion well but I have not heard of any more permits near Adameck#1.
