On July 8, 2016 the ODNR permitted the Statoil Pirl South U1H, U2H and U3H. The surface location is approximately the N/2 NE Sec 6 Salem Twp, Monroe County with the 10,500' laterals oriented to the southeast. The plat for this unit has not yet been posted on the ODNR site. That said, the problem I see is that the acreage north of this location, primarily in the south half of Section 1 Salem Twp. will likely be stranded, ie. too small to be included in a unit and likely left undrilled. The distance from the surface location to the boundary of the northern offset unit is only approximately 4500' or roughly half the length of a common horizontal well. So far this situation of stranded acreage has been avoided as the operators have formed units with common boundaries. I assume that included in the mandate of the ODNR is protection of owners rights and the prevention of waste. This is a situation where that objective has not been met.
