biogenic methane forms in shallow depths in organic material. Landfill gas, peat bogs, swamps etc. Thermogenic gas comes from deep formations that are under heat and pressure.

thank you

ji. please consult "The Legend of Dimock Hollow", you might still have an opportunity to dispell what we believe the "i" stands for in "ji".

sorry...didn't see reply button on your comment about water quality violations on the Mon River so i will put it here. "An example from fall 2008 in the Monongahela River basin is cited, where water quality standards for TDS were exceeded at 17 potable water intakes from West Virginia to Pittsburgh, when the river reached seasonal lows and concentrations of TDS and sulfates increased to historic highs."

The TDS water quality standards were exceeded. These standards are enforceable.

From your link:

In response to the increased threat to Pennsylvania’s waterways from polluted
wastewater generated during natural gas drilling, the Pennsylvania Department of
Environmental Protection (DEP) has developed new discharge standards that will
take effect by January 2011. Meanwhile, an interim “Permitting Strategy” is
being implemented in a “rethinking of historic practices,” according to the DEP.

The state addressed this problem and it is no longer a problem. Why does this now discredit the industry when this practice is not being done? Furthermore the state would be more at fault for allowing this in the first place. They are the regulating agency.
