We just found out our land is being drilled under in Clinton District, Mon county, WV.
Chesapeake has drilled 3 wells on the same property and the first one has passed right under our land not far from the wellhead.
We found out by contacting the DEP rep who sent us the plats.
All along we have wondered about this because the land is not quite a mile from us.
We matched it all up and they are indeed below us.
So, now what do we do?
Thanks!

I would think it means you don't own the mineral rights.
Is that per your family records/accounts or have you had full title with regards to the mineral rights run on your property?
We have been paying the taxes on the mineral rights for many years.
We have the deed.
I have called Chesapeake and am waiting for a return call.
DEP confirmed and told us to call the Chesapeake guy directly to discus.
I was told that when they do horizontal drilling that the permit must list what acres they have put in a unit. You are talking about horizontal drilling, right?
so check to see if your acreage is on that permit (at least in Pa they do)....and I must say that it is a pity that we as
landowners have to follow up on what really is happening with our lease or our property....would the foreigners that are purchasing our leases from these oil companies have to be seeking info like we do?
Thanks to the DEP who sent the plats to us! so we could actually see it is under our land.
The DEP will be involved in this so it may help greatly.
We will find out tomorrow.
Stay tuned!

how long has it been? I guess I wonder why the landowners have to really seek outside help to find out what the lessee is doing? what landlord would put up with such from a renter?...I sure hope you all don't have problems getting paid. Have you all heard anything from Chesapeake and how long? glad you have found help from the DEP (i am assuming you mean the Dept. of Envir. Protection, right?)

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
