hello! we are part of the noah yoder group in guernesy and noble counties. we received our notice of carrizo not accepting our lease after 8 months of lying to us and stringing us along.  the form letter stated that we had title issues on our property, but were not specific as to what those problems were and why it would take 8 months to notice them. also odd is that everyone in the group except for the three that were paid(a whopping 28 acres total) got the same letter. i am not sure how so many people (1700 acres) can all have title issues. simply more of their lies. i would not recommend carrizo to anyone thinking about signing up!!!!! unless you enjoy being strung along for months and only lying when their lips are moving. we had many offers in march when our lease was up,but signed the extension with carrizo instead and now no one seems to be leasing any longer. any suggestions??? feeling very screwed, blued and tattooed!!! thanks, ted

When you say you signed the extension with Carrizo instead, extension of what?  An option to lease your acreage?  I take it whatever agreement you had with Carrizo obligated them to pay you a certain amount for bonus, royalty, etc.. if they actually leased you, but that obligation was conditioned upon clear title?  Was it conditioned on anything else?

Sorry to hear that.  I can't comment on getting strung along for such a length of time or anyone's particular story, but I do know that leasing in Guernsey Co. for some reason is VERY challenging.  I'm not sure if it's held by production from shallow intervals, very old legacy wells, really no clue.  BUT I do know many properties are failing title - I've heard from operators that it's tough to get a land position together.

Not sure what options you have, but see if you can research what the bust was exactly.

hi ben! we signed a 90 day lease at the end of october 2011. when the lease was up in march, carrizo said they needed a bit more time to run title because of the courthouse jam and said they would need a couple of more weeks. actually the communications were thru the carrizo office in cambridge and the louisiana co. beta land service was doing the searches and paperwork. even as of a couple of weeks ago when people from our group called about a time line they assured us that all would be paid before the july deadline and even told one person that all the paperwork was done and just needed to be checked by corporate and then the checks would be cut and sent. we all received our leases back at the end of the week with the notice that we were declined because of title issues. there has to be at least 50 families in our group. my friend works at the county and said if the company finds issues they notify the land owner what the issue is so the land owner can take care of it. our group leader suspects that after they got a 1700+ acre tract from one family in noble county that they were no longer interested in ours. we are just mad because of  them encouraging us to sign the extension we missed out on the other companies offering us leases in march. everyone we know who signed leases in march, april and may have gotten paid in 4-6 weeks. we are in beaver township and millwood township. ted

Ted,

I sent you a friend request as I am interested to hear more about this if you are willing to share.

Ted, I too was one of the Carrizo rejects.  I joined this site right after my rejection letter came and that same day received help from Scott Peterson.  He has leased with KWGD and emailed them for a contact for that group.  I emailed her and received a response this morning.  I urge you to look at the Guernsey county page for the contact info.  They are forming a new group for people who find themselves in the same situtation as we are. Let's keep our finger crossed this one works out!!  Good luck to you!!

thanks for the info - we will look into it. i believe kwgd are our group leaders attornies. good luck to you too!

I am not sure about Carrizo or how they operate but I had heard that Guernsey county has a ton of old production and other title issues.  I am surprised they didn't at least tell you what your title issue was.

i do not believe there is any title issues. they only wanted to cherry pick.

It will be interesting to see how the folks in Mercer County fare with. I think Co-Exprise just had a major signing with hem. I know HilCorp was GREAT to deal with.

Did you have legal support & if so did they advise you to sign the extention with no caveats?
