Our land was leased over a year ago and a well pad is being planned on a neighboring property.  Recently we noticed blue flags in some of our trees in the woods.  Does anyone know what these flags might mean?  There is no  pattern to suggest a pipeline.

I've seen the blue ribbons used to mark out access routes, mostly on a network of ATV trails, during a seismic survey operation and early in the survey to lay out a well pad. They were just temporary markers, eventual pad access road followed a completely different route. No idea if this is any sort of a common usage, but just what I saw and was told by the survey crews.

When our well was laid out there were flags marking the laterals. Their location must be surveyed and submitted for permit at lease in Ohio.  Can you get close enough to read them? See what is written on there.   Ours said 10H for the lateral under us but there were others for 8H, 6H and so on.  This is Chesapeake so other companies have different lateral numbering schemes.  Pipeline stakes also have things written on them that may help you tell what they were surveying for.

Go yank them out of the ground and call the company and scream at them.    Even better, make your attorney call them.   (OK, I am being facetious - that is just what some people against this would do.)

We're okay with the flags, just want to know if anyone encountered these during the pooling phase.
