Is there a general rule of thumb on how far from the horizontal hole that a unit boudary is drawn. I know it probably depends on geology, but when they frack there must be a common distance from the bore where they draw the unit size when they are doing their pre-drilling planning.

On other posts I have seen here they've included diagrams that indicate the outboard laterals, terminus and wellheads set back 525 feet from the drilling unit's boundaries.

525' doesn't sound right. If a lateral length is 4000' and the unit is drawn 525' from the lateral, this would only be a 96 acre unit.

That's what I saw on the diagrams within the posts.

There were also multiple laterals shown on the diagrams.

Some of the latereals shown were 7000' long.

That's all I got.

JO,

That is true for Ohio, but the poster is in PA. In PA the lateral bore can come very close to the unit boundary, there are no set back laws. For instance in the Welter unit drawing in Butler County below.

Big differences.

There sure are, I think PA should have a minimum 250' set back but there is none at all.

So back to my original question, since in PA there are no minimum setbacks, and I already know the location of the vertical and horizontal bores, I guess the 640 acres could go anywhere. The drilling permits are not all approved yet, so the unit has not yet been recorded, so I will have to wait until the unit gets recorded to know for sure.

I assume you are interested in the Ceaser 1H & 2H units? How do you know the location of the horizontal bores, do you have the well plats?

Not sure what I have, but it has the vertical and horizontals, but the unit lines are not complete or official, at least the copy I have.

I've looked at some unit drawings in PA but that one takes the cake! Wow

That unit might or might not end up like that, they can be altered at any point before or after they are recorded.

Thank You, That is what I was expecting, so I will not know until it is officially recorded at the courthouse. Thanks for the replies.
