Eric, how do you know this is true?   Have you spoken to landmen who have been ordered out?

We decided to go with another Co. But I have not heard this at all. They were interested in our property in Mercer.

Per Eric @ SWEPI  Butler pa.  Im sure it has alot to do with the Dept of Energy.  Who knows really why????

Last night I was told by 2 shell landman that shell is no longer offering leases for all of Venango County.   They are going to concentrate on Butler County.

Mark I was told the same thing. One explanation was they where over budget. They may be returning in 30 to 90 days. However with the price of gas the lowest it been in years, who knows.

There were seismic testic trucks in cranberry township, venango county yesterday. Shell has leased a lot of ground here, a lot of leases signed, we are waiting for drafts to clear. The rumor is that chevron is the company that is testing here presently.

I sure hope they go through!  Gona be a long wait for some folks.  Does SWEPI have the money?  Im sure they are lease flippers as well.

This map is for the wet/dry line of the Marcellus Shale. The problem is that the Marcellus is very thin in Venango and not worth drilling for. And in the Utica, the wet/dry line is further west, placing Venango in the dry zone. Of course, the Utica is not very well studied and the wet/dry line is not well defined. Once a few wells are drilled the line may shift. But at current prices companies don't want to be the guinea pig.

....Mark's response on wednesday is correct regarding Shell moving out of Venango county.....Shell is now making one more final sweep at getting leases in northern Butler county. Many of the landowners I spoke with in northern Butler county received letters last week (dated 1/14/12) asking them to call Shell regarding getting leased.

Venango county is in the wet gas area as is the western part of Clarion county, at least by the readings I have seen for a chromagraph.
