if they are aware of them, yes they test them too, as well as ponds and any other surface water source. it's up to the landowner to make the testing company aware of whatever needs to be tested.

why would you think that drilling and frac'ing for gas would make anyone sick?

the process has been used for many years and so far no one has gotten sick.

ok jim then why cant my neice and her family drink thier water after drilling and fracking in the area.that water was tested prior to drilling???????they can only bath in it now

so lets hear the story bill.

if what you say is true, theirs' will be the first case.

i'm all ears here.

wj

really jim so then thier neighbors would be the second case and so on

yeah bill, really.

lets hear the story.

if there is one that is.

William.

We had all our water sources tested.

Springs

Wells

Creeks

Anything within 3000 feet of the proposed well site. This was in Columbiana County Ohio.

You claim to have problems now, what were the initial tests like?

What changes happened?

What are the test numbers now?

Where are you located?

What company did the drilling?

If you do not answer those questions, no one is going to believe you. You look to be an anti-drilling person trying to stir the pot.

I am not trying to be hard on you but, making claims without scientific proof will get you nowhere fast.

Keith

boy did this get out of hand.and no i am not anti drilling trying to stir the pot.i am a land owner i do not have a problem.the spring i was talking about is on coal company property a couple thousand acres DO THEY KNOW HOW MANY SPRINGS ARE ON THAT PROPERTY this spring comes out by a main road they just drilled on top of the hill people get water there every day i just asked a question sir it is what it is      BILL

Frank, "don't drink the water" in Mexico refers to giardia, which is a parasite infection of the intestines, very painful but fully curable with treatment.

William,

You asked about a spring. The water testing company will send a questionnaire to the landowner. They will ask what needs to be tested. In my case, they asked, I responded, they tested, no problems. A coal company may not know it's land very well, or care.

William look back at this post. You did not "I just asked a question sir it is what it is". You made the following statement.

"ok jim then why cant my neice and her family drink thier water after drilling and fracking in the area.that water was tested prior to drilling???????they can only bath in it now"

You made this get out of hand. Either back up what you say or do not say it. Simple, plain,   no problems.

People do have bad water. The tests in my area found some bad wells, some because of  methane. CHK came in after the tests and put venting well caps on these water wells. These problems are in no way related to drilling. They have not put the well in yet. Most are because of coal, maybe all of them.

William, there are too many people that are out to blame others on their problems. If you have a true problem, let us help you figure out the real cause.

Keith i am with you on defending the oil and gas companys i am in a unit myself drilled and being fracked within weeks.they are spending millions in this area do i want them to pull out NO.people either dont care about drilling or simply dont know what it will or will not do to the water especially old people.that spring is a good example people young and old get water from that spring every day.also 14 of my neices neighbors have bad water also after drilling    BILL

Can someone tell me of a open spring that has been certified safe by a health department for humans to drink straight from?

Billy,

That is a very interesting point. In Ohio, I don't think most homes have had their well tested let alone a spring!

I know that in 1988, after a couple of dry years, the USDA paid 80% of the cost to capture the spring that my cattle drank from. The contractor installed a system to capture the water and piped it into 2 - 300 gallon livestock tanks. It made a really great system to water my cattle. The water testing company was very impressed when they tested them. I do not have any cattle now, but the deer like to drink from them!

Keith
