Once the new guy gets settled in he will become aware of how much he really needs the gas/oil industry to keep on drilling. He may well implement more regs and do more research... some of which is needed. But he is a Democrat, he needs the money to further his tax and spend agenda. If there is no new wealth, there is no new tax monies. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds, to say the least.

Just my opinion, fwiw

He wants his 5% severance tax too much to "fully fund our schools" - whatever that means.  He won't shut down the industry.

It means he wants more natural gas money so he can funnel it to teachers' salaries.  Teachers are the largest group in his base of political support.  Landowners are the smallest.

Say it with me:  "redistribution of wealth"

Where have we all heard that one before.  You see, wealth landowners have derived from natural gas development of their land is ill gotten and tremendously undeserved.  That wealth needs to be spread around to everyone in Pennsylvania, as evenly as possible;  starting with all the poor, underpaid, teachers.

Following in the footsteps of our fine wealth redistributing Ohio governor I see.

boy, that article just screams impartiality, don't it? sigh.....

Couldn't read the article, but if I lived in PA I would have the ex gov in court recovering my royalty losses that he has in his bank account. He failed to protect the landowners of your state while you carried the local government with your Real Estate taxes.

Hopefully the articles states that the Lies in PA are now in the past.

If you lived in PA you would have supported Wolf.  That's pretty much all we need to know about you.  Please remain where you are and do not move here.  PA landowners have enough problems as it is.

An extraction tax is not going to inflict a mortal wound on the oil/gas companies. That being said the citizens of PA need to guide the direction of this tax. The monies gained from this tax should first go to the counties and districts where drilling is active. None whatsoever should go to areas actively banning or seeking moratoriums to oil/gas drilling. This can only happen if landowners petition their local representatives.

Ragnars:

Wake up!!!!!!   You're dreaming.

I may be. "Not to speak is to speak, not to act, is to act."

I believe any extraction tax will be fully paid out of the landowners share of royalties and it won't cost the drillers one extra cent.  After all, if the lease doesn't specifically forbid extraction taxes then the gas/oil companies can deduct it from royalties- Isn't that basically what the latest court ruling says?

Robert

Wolf's extraction tax will hit landowners and hit us hard.  Governor Corbett, and the Republicans in the PA Legislature, gave us an impact fee that most benefits us and the regions of PA where natural gas is being developed.

Wolf's political constituency is the opposite of that being served and helped by the impact fee.  He will do everything possible to shunt our impact fee monies to the cities where the vast majority of his voters live.  And as everyone knows, if Wolf gets an extraction tax the impact fee dies instantly.  That provision is already in the impact fee legislation.  If Wolf gets his way, it's curtains for us.
