I'm south of Rural Valley. We received a seismic permit request letter from GX Technology (Lower Burrell, PA). They have also sent to neighbors asking to conduct testing on their properties. Consol has our lease, so I contacted our landman. Consol did not sub-contract GX Technology to do the testing and the landman said GX Technology is probably getting landowner permissions to do testing then sell it. I'd like to know if there are faults here, since thumper trucks last year gave some "inconclusive" indictions of faults in our area. Allowing the testing may provide the answer, if they will give that info to me. Disturbing my spring water is another concern, so I need more info before I allow the on-site testing.
I'm in Burrell Twp. & my neighbor gave Ion our phone number since we're 1 mile off the main road. Cody (representing Ion) was here this afternoon. The Agreement is very vague. I did some research over the week-end and found a law firm in Eastern Ohio that gave some good advice. Comparing what they are suggesting land-owners do compared to the Ion GX Technology permit request is like night and day. Be aware that if someone has your drilling rights and they give their okay you don't have any say.
I asked if copies of the testing would be available and told you could buy them and need a geologist to interpret them for you -- expect to pay around $20,000.00 just for your property and which would be in what he said was in a "1/2 halo".
It's my understanding that this gives EQT, Chevron and now more companies involved a more detailed look at what the Thumper Trucks did last year.
The map they gave us showed approximate places for the charges and the meters. Some of the charges aren't in good places for us; but, we were advised (at least this is what Cody said--it's not in the permit) could be moved.
We didn't sign as of yet and want to get more information before we do.
Be Cautious when signing one of these Seismic Testing Agreements. Make sure that the agreement does not state that you may not allow any further testing on your property by any other companies in the future...
The call I received last week was from a property owner out near the Shay/Rockville area of A/C. I can see where ION would need permission from the surface owners in this case. I didn't think about that - we own gas right under an adjoining property too. Did [they] happen to say why they are testing; what are they looking for? Thanks for respoding!
Dona, My neighbor called me Friday, seems ION was at her place and she signed the papers permitting seismic testing. Problem is no one else around us have been contacted by them and we own the mineral rights to their property. EQT has now obtained permits (or are in the process) of obtaining permits all around us and have been in touch with neighbors that they own shallow wells on to shut them in. These properties all are bordering Crooked Creek. I called Ion Friday and it seems EQT & Chevron have contracted them for this project.
Does anyone following Armstrong understand this and could they explain how test bore hole drilling seismic works other than just a brief explanation -- what distances are the holes, etc.. When shallow wells were drilled on our and surrounding properties in the 2000's it affected our well water, and as much as I thought we were protected -- in the end we weren't. I'm concerned that should ION do this on our property (and per our leases we can't stop them if the lessor driller gives approval even though we don't) out water may be more adversely affected.
Any one know anything about seismic testing in Armstrong County, Manor Twp? Company: ION GX Technologies.
Hey Deer Hunter- It is possible that you could still own your oil rights.
If you want to talk about it more, let me know

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
