"The land in Beaver County is owned by Horsehead Holding Corp. ZINC -0.61% , a metal-processing company based in Pittsburgh. A Horsehead spokesman earlier said Shell's option on the land, which had been due to expire in early January, had been renewed but that terms were confidential.
Ms. Windon said in an email that the company was continuing to evaluate the site and hadn't made any decision on whether to proceed with the project. "The demolition work is being initiated to begin preparation of the site for potential construction," she said. That work is due to begin early in 2014."

Removing the old structures is one thing, imagine how much toxic earth will need spirited away and where would they dump it. I've heard the Super Fund is nearly broke so they will not get much if any help from the Gov. Looks like the slow train is still at the station. Full story release here:

Anyone have any insight regarding this Marathon Petroleum facility in Industry/Midland? Is it expanding or are they just renewing their port terminal facility permit?
Clicking through your link abit further it appears that they filed a modification for a Major Facility Plan Approval, and then filed for an extension (the link you posted) of the Major Facility Plan Approval permitting process. Don't know what that might mean though but seems like they are doing more than just updating a permit.
I don't drive that way much at all but may have to check it out someday.
I agree it looks like this could be a good thing. Thanks Craig for your evaluation. Maybe someone else in that area might have some more info for us.
Marathon has a site just as you enter Midland. It has tanks and river access. A lot of fuel trucks load at the facility..I have seen Sheets tankers ,home heating oil tankers, etc. I think this will be an expansion...they announced that they are going to build a pipeline to the location from Ohio..click on picture to see the complet map..

Excellent find Gary. Thanks!
Hopefully the wet gas of the Upper Devonian and Marcellus in Beaver County will start to be produced soon in order to take advantage of the increased capacity of the MPC terminal in Midland (along with the hopeful Shell ethane cracker).

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
