Chesapeake probably has 90% of the leases in Beaver County. Unless you are in the very Northern part of the county you will probably be leasing with them.
The trouble is that for the last some months they have been offering peanuts for re-leasing expiring leases. Unless you have a fair amount of acreage and/or you have property that they really need they won't offer anything worthwhile. Neighbors have been offered anywhere from $200/acre signing bonus up to $1,000 recently. Some of the uninformed signed at those numbers, which in my humble opinion was stupid.
Craig: I agree. It is foolish for one to give away something that has been under their land for 300 million years. I believe that many folks feel that they missed the boat on the land grab and that something is better than nothing. That is not always the case. Signing a lease with bad economic terms most likely also contains terms that will harm the land and water of the landowner and the neighbors for possibly generations.
Any info who is leaseing now, lots of leases are starting to end..about 400 acres around me now..RRC just gave me a release so I can file it in the court house..
