Has anyone that belongs to this site heard, or have had discussions about the potential of the shale drilling?

Good morning to you all,

Was curious as to if anybody had heard or has had conversions with people on the street about the potential of the Utica and Marcellus drilling that will be heading this way?

Last night I couldn't help but overhear a couple discussing the drilling and companies comming to the community of Titusville, Pa. and surrounding areas. The topic of their chat was not good. Basically consisted of all the negatives and most of it wasn't true. They went as far as saying that documentaries such as "gasland" were factual and that everyone will be cheated and lied to here.

So I asked them why would they not consider giving companies that want to make business in this area a chance? Went as far to explain how much good has happened to areas such as Washington, Pa. Hickory, Pa., and towns in Ohio and New York. So many jobs and careers, not to mention the endless possibilities for businesses in area already in operation to expand and new opportunities for people that could prosper from this as well.

My given reply was less then desirable. After getting yelled with profane language and them not believing a word. Suggested they do their own research on the net and see for themselves how much everyone can benefit from this natural gas. I then asked what they heat with? "Oh we heat with natural gas, and our heating bill has went down! " I guess they just didn't realize how the industry does help. Probably don't complain when they adjust the dial on the thermostat when it gets chilly in their house.

In ending, I was just amazed how some can call the drilling around here evil, or that it won't help me at all. I can guarantee that it most certainly will and a place such as Titusville could really take advantaged of what the industry has to offer. That they really need something like this to get the town back to what it was like and not a depressed area. Seen it happen to the town in Hickoky, Pa. Although there was a few negatives. Like traffic problems and an overwhelming feeling at first. They eventually adjusted and couldn't be happier with the outcome of jobs and better community with plenty of money. I went as far to include that most of companies that would be operating here would be giving a lot back to the community through many ways. Instantly they changed their tune and actually apologized?! Saying yes they'd have to agree about that and given time would support the industry because the town sure does need something good.

What have you guys heard on the street? Has it been good or bad? Every time I get the chance when people express their dislike of gaswell industry. It pretty much stems from them not being properly informed, that they only hear one side of the story. After careful consideration they usually change their opinion for the better. As long as they extract the natural resources safely and effectively. They want to stay and operate in areas that are beneficial to them and the community in which they are involved with. I couldn't agree more when it's done that way and we can all benefit from that.

Do you guys think there will be a warm welcome or not?

When I hear or read discussions such as this I wonder if any of these people own property within a gas play area or have turned down lease offers.  I think that there is a degree of jealousy involved there.

After reading what you wrote Rich. I'd agree with you. Tend to think most people that complain or have nothing but bad to say about natural gas drilling is because they have no involvement. That they know they are not going to have a piece of the pie. From what I've seen and heard, it's going to taste pretty darn good. Good to have a decent plot of land.
