Hi, I am new at this and had a few questions.  Our cabin is located on rt. 6 near potatoe city.  I know that they put a well in down the road and I was wondering how close you need to be to the well to get signed up?  Also on our deed the mineral rights are unknown, does that mean that we own them?  Thanks for any help in this!!

Thanks, I don't know if we are 5000-7000 feet from the well.  We are about 1/2-1 mile west of potatoe city.  I would think that if we had to sign up they would have contacted us by now.  I am hopefull that is not the case.  Any info about who to contact or what to do would be great. Thanks!
You do not have to be "signed up".  In fact the company drilling would probably tell you  they  don't need you.  If your AC is of a decent size,  they might want to come onto your land (sub-surface) and continue a frack in the future.   That being the case don't leave the mineral rights "unknown".  Establish ownership ASAP.  If you don't, anyone could!  At some point you might be contacted to put in gathering lines, and a right-of-way lease offered. Get to the Extension Office and see the pamphlet Penn State has out on that.  It's on Buffalo St. in Coudersport, and has numerous hand-outs on all things Marcellus.  All camp residents on both sides and the top of Denton Hill would benefit from the PSU hand-outs available.
Jim,
I have a few questions for a lawyer.
Please call me when you have the chance.
Thx

Janice,
What do u mean 'anyone can' establish the mineral rights?
Please explain.
Janice,

Anything new to report regarding the 4 county coalition?

When is the next meeting?

I'd ignore that comment about "establishing ownership" - Janice isn't a lawyer, and clearly doesn't understand how titles work in Pennsylvania. Ask the attorney who represented you when you made the purchase to check your abstract and tell you who owns the oil and gas rights. I have no idea what's being suggested here, but "anyone" can't just decide to take these oil and gas rights. They belong to someone - if not you, then someone else. You just need to figure out who it is.

I'm guessing that you're near Chesapeake's Arch Pot test well - they've leased most of the acreage they need for the unit, but haven't shown any interest in picking up anything nearby. I don't believe the well has been completed, and heard that the log results weren't particularly favorable. If you can give me a tax map number for your parcel, I may been able to check my old abstract files and tell you who owns the oil and gas rights. Otherwise, you'll need to wait and see what your attorney finds when they check out the title.
