I am interested in looking at detailed maps as to where permits are being issued, wells drilled, etc.  I have been on EMAPPA, but cannot navigate to what I am looking for. Anyone been contacted by Geokinetics seismic testing?  Thanks. ap

EMAPPA is a good site, but finicky. Doesn't work well with Firefox. Won't pan and zoom correctly - use Internet Explorer.

For permits, see hee:

Don't understand how they come up with the town where well sites are located. For instance the Derrick proposed site is listed for both Lairdsville and Sonestown. It is no where near Sonestown (which is in Sullivan County quite a distance away); site is actually located aprox 1 mile west of Lairdsville in Franklin Twp, Lycoming County, just off Beaver Run Rd. Saw others that are not where eFacts says they are, so how do they come up with these town locations???
There are a couple tricks in using EMAPPA. First make sure your popup blocker is OFF for the site. A window will open for the site your are going to and ask you to locate it within the window. If the popup blocker is on you never get the window. Second make sure under the facilities tab you have oil and gas checked off. I could not make this work for a long time, but it works well now. If you do it correctly you can have the state wide map showing the site and then click in to get the close up. You should check the unpaved roads etc. when doing the closeup. I understand the frustration as I fought it a long time.
The EMAPPA site sucks. You can't use it unless you know exactly where the site is in relation to a road, etc.; the sites do not appear until the area is really magnified and you are lost in the map because you are so close into the site; it doesn't help with coordinates; and so on.

It would be nice if the enotices of permit actions allows one to click on a site permit and then it takes you to an actual map of the site.

C'mon DEP, fix up your mapping!
I may be over-simplifying this but you can also go to your regional DEP office and I am sure that they keep a map of the permits. It may not be something that they will let you copy, but you could get alot of information with a little planning and a few hours at the DEP office.

There is a web site that keeps track of all permits and maps them for you, also giving coordinates for those who want to use gps. The site charges a small fee, but it seems worth the few bucks to avoid the annoyance of the PA website.

Go to rlstore.com and decide if the info is worth paying for. A lot of people I know are using the site now.
I use the RLstore site to get the GSP coordinates, then put them into Google Earth and map it that way. Much more accurate and I can relate to the locations much easier.
