Hi,

I noticed the well that is proposed near my house is listed on the DEP report (Permits Issued by County 2010.xls)  with a "Date Disposed" of 09/02/2010.  What kind of indicator is that in regards to when the land pool will be defined and the drilling will start?

I'm asking because I haven't signed a lease yet and want to know how much time I realistically have.

The O&G companies seem to do things in different orders and at different speeds. East just declared a unit for a vertical well that was drilled 2 years ago. They are planning to drill horizontals for that well, but who knows when? I agree with Josie...don't give in just because they put pressure on you. Check out all your options.
If it's East you're dealing with, in Jackson/Rutland, it looks like they have at least temporarily stopped drilling single horizontal wells. The newer permits are for either all 6 wells or wells 2-6 where there already is one (all horizontal). There are two sites that I go by every couple weeks that have had the earth moving done and are just sitting there.. Doing all the wells at once is certainly a more efficient way to do it. But it is going to take longer to get from one site to the next. Of course, ymmv.
