Dear listers, it would be really encouraging to read about what folks are doing with portions of their money to help less fortunate people in our community. I have not yet received a big lease or royalty but I was thinking if I did it would be neat to help get started an outreach to help folks with dental work that cannot afford it in these tough economic times. Our church group gives clothes away every month and I am always pained to see the terrible condition of these peoples teeth! Any dentists on the list that would do some lower cost work if we could start an outreach like this? Would love to hear what others are doing. Sean

If you want to set up a program that accepts donations, the first step would probably be to set up a non-profit ... so donors could take a tax deduction. The person who does the books for your church could probably give you an idea of what this involves. Another source of information would be the County Assustance Office, which administers Medicaid. They do maintain a list of dentists who accept Medicaid payment for services ("low cost"). They also might know of an existing charity/foundation that funds dental services.
