Just received an offer in lease agreement form (standard lease) for our property in Tioga county from Ultra. Does any one know about this company? They say they have 28,000 acres leased. And they are wonderful.

I don't know much about Ultra. I would like to know where your land is located and maybe something about the offer, if you are willing to divulge that information. I think Ultra drilled a couple of the first wells in the Gaines area and had excellent results there.
Brain, Property is located in Shippen township.
Ultra is a fair sized public company that is the large player in the Pinedale field in Wyoming. They are also 50% partners w/ East Resources in most of Tioga county. I don't have any personal experience with them, but based on web research they seem to be a very reputable company known for their low production costs. Their first wells in the marshlands area (Gaines) were targeting formations below the Marcellus.
Thanks for the info.
Ulta is a publically traded company based in Denver. They are the major lease holder in the Pinedale Anticline in Wyoming. Pretty solid company. UPL is there sign to call up there stock and you can find more out about the company.
Scott-- Ultra Petroleum is covered extensively in the wiki! --Tom
The wiki says: "The acreage co-owned with East Resources is due east of the Potter-Tioga line in Tioga County. It stands in an area 30 miles across and 40 miles wide"

Does anyone know exactly where this area is? It should extend at least to Wellsboro, right? With East's activity coming toward Wellsboro from the Bradford county border, central Tioga County should be a hot spot. Does anyone know how to contact Ultra? They don't have a local contact on their website.
Lynn-- The original source of this info was the 2Q09 Ultra Earnings Call--Sally Zinke's comment on page 5. She didn't really narrow the location down very much, but you might be able to find a clue or two if you carefully read the whole discussion on Ultra's Marcellus activities that begins about halfway down page 3 (scroll to the bottom of the page and you can select page 3).

This may not be the correct Ultra department--it's for royalty owners--but they should be able to refer you to the right place to contact: (800) 318-7850 --Tom

I live in Gaines and she's our contact. They also have an office in Wellsboro. In the plaza where the Bi Lo is located.Hope that helps.
I spoke with someone at Ultra; the only drilling they are doing in Delmar Township is in joint venture with East, and they offer the same bad terms that East offers.
They are a big player in the Rocky Mountains Pinedale/Jonah area.
I live near Sheridan, Wyoming in the Powder River coalbed/ methane drilling area. I have lived in this state for going-on 10 years. I spent most summers here for ten years before moving here permanently. I have many friends and aquaintences in the oil and gas industries in many different levels. At the moment the word is "Drilling has stopped in Wyoming." I can vouch for that in the coalbed/methane fields. It is quite a shock to those who have lived off of the fatted calf for some time now. (A lesson to be learned; Put some of that royalty money away for a rainy day, when it finaly comes through and don't tick off your neighbors completely because you may meet them in the unemployment line someday.) I can't speak for sure for the Pinedale anticline, but it is in the Wind River and Wyoming mountain ranges. This is an environmentally contested area of magnifascent scenic beauty. Much of it is wilderness. It is just east and south of Teton National Park and Jackson Hole. I think projected wells there will be very deep ones. Word is, much of the drilling rigs and equipment are headed to the East Coast.
