Demand for LNG is expected to double in the next decade as the fuel continues to gain favor with countries looking to cut carbon emissions by switching away from coal-fired power plants. Asia is seen as a particularly strong market for the fuel.
Middle Eastern countries like Qatar were the centers of LNG export development over the past decade, with the construction of massive, multi- billion-dollar land-based facilities. Australia is the current hotbed of activity, with a handful of huge projects under way.
Shell has plans to spend up to $30 billion in the region in the next five years, and is also eyeing possible floating LNG projects in East Timor. Indonesia, the South China Sea, Cypress, East Africa and Latin America. ..."
