A water truck apparently smashed into to car destroying it the other day near Mansfield. As far as I know no one was killed. And then a day after my wife and I were on our way to Galeton on route six. An eighteen wheeler following us drew right up within at least 2 car lengths behind us.. I could not speed up because of a slower moving car ahead of us. I pulled off near the Permastone Inn to get out of his way.
A few years ago just west of the Mansfield State police A tanker truck hit a small red car head on. My wife and I was about two cars behind that tanker truck. Earlier I was about to enter route six. across from where the old Y Drive in movie theatre use to be. That tanker was approaching slowly. I had plenty of time to pull out ahead of it but my wife said, "lets let him go past first."
Two cars were following him and we waited for them too.
That tanker had picked up speed but was still in sight. Just west of the state police station the truck was ascending a slight grade with a curve in the middle of it. Rounding the curve, that truck disappeared from our view. I noticed the car ahead of us quickly pull off the road to the right. By now we were close enough to see that tanker stopped on the left side of route six. Under the front wheels of that tanker was a small red car. A cloud of steam was rising from the truck. Two or three cars had already stopped. We continued to the state police station to report it. They had just received the call but the location was not given. My wife interrupted them. She spoke up and explained that it was next to that horse farm about a half mile west.
We later found out the red car had drifted into the wrong lane. The trucker had no choice but to swing left but it was too late. Two women in that car were killed. The truck driver quit his job on the spot.
It was many months before we could pass that spot again. My wife and I could very well been sandwiched between that car and that truck had I not waited back at that intersection!

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
