We don't know how horizontal Marcellus wells will do in Tyler County, but even if they don't produce well we have other possibilities: Utica shale and Trenton/Black River. They are also natural gas bearing geological layers that lie deeper than the Marcellus shale. There is a good chance that one or both of these formations in Tyler County have significant amounts of natural gas. Exploration for these deeper shales may be several years in the future, but they will come after it at some point.

I am aware of a company who owns all or some fraction of the mineral rights on thousands of acres spread throughout Tyler County. Following the Chesapeake meeting in February, they signed a lease. As of a month ago they had received bonus payment on about 20% of their holdings. I don't no of any way of learning where the leased acreage lies in the county or why Chesapeake has not leased the other 80% of the companies holdings.
Does anyone know someone who signed with Chesapeake following the February meeting? In what part of Tyler County is their property located?

The marcellus covers all of Doddridge County . that is a nice bit of acerage.
things are kind of slow on leasing right now, someone will no doubt get a hold of you. they have landmen working the courthouses all the time. chesapeake has leased is in the $ 1000 per acre 15 % range in some districts in marion, monongalia & tyler havent heard much on doddridge they are doing a good bit of grilling there , just have not heard many offers. when all the pipe lines are reworked and completed, should help leasing in these counties, we want you to get a fair deal, usually if there is an offer someone will post it. be sure your a member of Doddrige county, so they will send a notification when there is a new post.

DODDRIDGE CO we want to know if any of this shell has been found in the west end of Dodd. Co. I have the leasing rights on 365 ajoining acres. There is a good possibility of leasing 500 more acres. Are we in a hot spot?
