The title of this entry is the answer provided by House Majority Leader, Todd Eachus regarding the proposed Tax On Marcellus Drillers. His style of Pennsylvania leadership is not focused on jobs, energy or rewarding the state with needed growth. Rather his own agenda prevails as he comes to strong arm exploration & production firms saying," What we've said all along is that the conversation begins and ends with the extraction tax". No other issues can be addressed until the natural gas industry "tap out" and pay-up.
Our industry needs to reach out to the broader community for support of the Marcellus opportunity and a macro view of how this work is essential. Not the "follower mentality" as demonstrated by Senate President Joe Scarnati, R-Jefferson who supports a tax that supports environmental protection and programs to communities where wells are drilled. No wonder we have folks hollering "Not in my back yard" (NIMBY) and other various claims to support that stance. When the Republican leader accepts the claims that damage is likely and communities need some sort of program beyond a bank.
A bill is being worked on with additional laws that assist individual rights, that would limit municipal authority over where drilling may occur. We are faced with “De-Mystifing" and myth-busting to many layers: The leaders of State, Region and local and then the population. A tax would ultimately be worse for the state, regional and local economies.
The Rendell administration supported by entrenched parasites like Representative Bud George, the House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee chairman from Clearfield County, pit the industry against the people. People, individuals, benefit and work now meets future needs regarding energy. A win–win scenario, we are being strengthened.
Producers are investing billions and hiring thousands and hundreds of services will be needed, why do we allow unnecessary taxes and prejudging reactions to rule the day?
