The pipe thread grease "dope" comes in 5 gallon pails, the lengths of pipe are called joints. Every couple days the pipe gets brought out 3 joints at a time, "tripped" to change the drill bit or put a test instrument on it and the rigs have a tool "pusher" to get equipment.

Not much has changed... the dope comes in 40 pound buckets, the joints are 30 feet long, you trip all day and every rig has a pusher.
