My gas lease clearly expired on June 8 2011 yet the last leaseholder- XTO Energy a subsidiary of EXXON has failed to file a "release of lease" in the Clinton County, PA courthouse. I have contacted them many times and they agree that the lease has expired and they will take care of it yet they haven't done anything after 6 months. It may seem a trivial detail except that these leases are not filed-only a memo of lease is filed that contains no lease details. Other companies are reluctant to deal with properties that have a filed memo of lease because most leases are extended via "held by production" shenanigans. Has anyone else had this problem? How can I get this filed? Thanks.

Hopefully you have a signed and notarized copy of the original lease and memorandum as well.
...and if other company's landmen are in your area, you can put the word out, with them, that your lease has expired with XTO - and you are interested in signing with someone else.
