My primary point was this well is very different than the others. The target depth as well as the well classification being a POOL. I thought that was extreamly long for a lateral also. But just because it hasn't been done here in the past, probably doesnt mean it wont be in the future. Especially if Chesapeake deems its profitable :)
Really good information on this site. Thanks to everyone! Can anyone tell me how to find out if your property is in a unit? My property is northwest of the Mangun well less than a 1/2 mile from it.
Sorry, I found the answer to that question, but I'm having trouble finding it on the Recorder's site. I know the second well may not be filed yet, but I can't find that information about the first well and I've seen it before. Can someone guide me to that information again? Thanks!!!
Russ,
Its not that straight forward and your going to have to do a little searching for it but if you know the name of the well you'll have an advantage. Usually its named after the property owner. So go to the Landacess webpage and look at the Mangun filings. You'll find this one under Calvin Mangun. It's titled "Lease" and it was filed on March 29, 2011.
If you want to stay up on the others or don't know the well name, you can always go into the Landacess page and type in Chesapeake. They've slowed their filing activity down so it wont be overwealming to go in periodically and see what they've filed. Currently theres over 2,000 documents. If your with Rex Energy they're filing under R E Gas Development. P.S. you need to type it in as exact as I have above R space E space. If you put in RE you'll never find it....they're sneaky that way.
If you run into a problem let me know.
Thanks Missy!
Thanks Marcus!
Marcus,
Can you post a link to the base web page used to veiw / lookup a DPU maps ?
Missy,
I do not think that 13,329' is the hypentuse of a triangle.
Marcus stated that PTD is the total distance travelled by the Drill Bit.
The drill bit goes mostly straight down,
then the drill bit makes an extremely tight 90 degree turn,
then the drill bit goes mostly horizontally away from the pad.
I think,
PTD is approx equal to Vertical Distance Down (A) + Horizontal Distance Out (B).
PTD = A + B (using your terminology)
Well 8H DTD = 14,170' Horz Length = 6,789' therefore Depth = 7,381'
Well 3H DTD = 13,329' Horz Length = 5,913' therefore Depth = 7,416'
Utica Shale was found from 7,326' to 7,621' while drilling vertically.
Both wells are inside the limits of the 300' thick Utica Shale.
Well 8H data are actual values - drilled.
Well 3H data are planned values - permitted.
I do not agree with your results that ...
Well 3H is at 11,892' depth
Well 8H is at 6,556' depth
as that would mean neither well is in the Utica Shale.
Also, could the term POOL type well be used for the 3H well because these two horizontal wells are only differ by 25' vertically? Therefore, the 2nd well is not considered an Exploratory / Wild Cat type well but a POOL type well?
Russ,
When you look up the Calvin Mangun well on landaccess.com, click on the lease dated March 2011, then find the little magnifying glass icon that says preview. That will take you to the document filed that declares the unit. All parties in the unit and acreage in the unit are listed. That well was drilled to the southeast. Given your proximity and location, I would imagine you would be included in the north unit when it is created. We have a well next door and there is a NORTH unit declared, a NORTH M (Marcellus layer only) Unit declared, and now a Southeast leg drilled which I am assuming will be another unit, given the north unit is already 450 acres or so. There are three laterals drilled with two more permits pulled for our neighboring well. I found a VERY INTERESTING WEBSITE last night that you should check out. You can view all the wells in the area and limit it to ONLY THE DIRECTIONAL DRILLING (horizontal wells), and can see how they are laid out in the county, how the laterals run, or zoom in and look at them closer. I will definately be following activity on this website. We've been guessing how they all fit together and now can get a visual of the county. They are definately on a grid and it seems one might be able to predict where the next ones will go. http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/OhioGeologicalSurvey/tabid/7105/Default....
Hope this helps!!
I drove past the Mangun Well on Thursday evening. They were working on ditches along the sides the road off of RT 9. But I did not see any Drilling Rig, yet.
Heard a Rig is scheduled to return to the Mangun Well site, soon.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
