Just got a letter in the mail today. Chesapeake has sold my Lease to Hilcorp Energy. Called a Farmer down the road and he also got the same letter. Is Hilcorp a better company than Chesapeake.

I don't know if they are better they aren't in the news like CHK is..where are you located in Columbiana county?

We have the same questions. We got the letter yesterday as well. We were really surprised by it considering Chesapeake built a pad on us. Hopefully, it is for the best. Does anyone know how many landowners were affected?
What township are you in? I wonder if this is lease swapping between the two co's. I heard that Hilcorp was leasing land in the county but they had no interest in some land surrounded by chks leases in September, not to far from Carroll co.

Hi all,  I received a letter a couple of days ago from Chesapeake and today I received one from Hilcorp about the same.  I am in Salem Township

Don't know if we got letter yet from Hilcorp. We are Elkrun Twp.

I also received this letter.  I called Chesapeake and spoke with a representative from the Land Department who was directly involved with these lease assignments.  This involves a large section of land including Elk Run, Fairfield, Salem and Center townships, primarily the area where the four meet.  Yes, it is involved with the Brinker Storage field.  The rep confirmed that Chesapeake felt that these areas presented too many problems due to the storage area which effects drilling. (I had also heard it effects pipeline rights on some leaseholds as well.)  Therefore, these leases were assigned to Hillcorp.

I went to the meeting Dr J and others set up for the Brinker Storage field issues (thanks to them for their efforts of behalf of their neighbors) and met with Hillcorp representatives.  They were professional and seemed okay to deal with.....of course only time will tell.  Maybe someone can post info on the company's track record?

It seems like this could be a good thing for those of us on the edge of the Storage area, who still retain their deep rights....since Hillcorp will be drilling the Storage area...this increases your chances of being included in a unit.  Otherwise Chesapeake would have avoided your land.

Linda, please see my posts on the Hilcorp Brinker Amendment for additional details.

This is what I have found out about Hilcorp. Hilcorp and Nisource have joined forces. Nisource owns Columbia Gas, Which owns the rights to the Brinker storage area. They have been dealing with Chesapeake for over a year on these Leases. Heres what I've found.

NiSource and Hilcorp aren’t yet disclosing a specific location where they will build the processing plant or pipeline, spokesman Mike Banas said.

“As we define the route, we will indicate more specific counties,” he said.

The pipeline and processing facility are the first phase in a project that will be built to expand based on demand, Banas said. Initially, the 50 miles of 20-inch pipeline will supply about 400 million cubic feet of wet and dry gas a day, and the processing plant will have an initial capacity of 200 million cubic feet a day.

NiSource Midstream Services LLC will operate the system, the company said. Earlier this year, NiSource said the same subsidiary would be building a 90-mile transmission pipeline to send gas and oil from eastern Ohio to a new processing plant in Harrison County.

NiSource also said it was entering a separate partnership with Hilcorp to drill on “a significant combined acreage block in the Utica/Point Pleasant Shale formation in northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania.” Banas said the company was not disclosing the specific location or size of that land.

A worker from Chesapeake in 2011 told me that there is a lake of Oil under Hanover, Center and Elkrun Twp. Then last summer I was told the same thing again by another worker from Chesapeake. Then a Hilcorp Drilling Rig out of the blue shows up on Grafton Rd. North of Lisbon, 3 weeks later we get letters that our Leases have been sold to Hilcorp. Looks to me like we are all going to be part of something very big. From what I've found out about Hilcorp and Nisource, They are very good company's with lots of CASH !

The processing facility is supposedly planned for somewhere in Mahoning County, perhaps North of Springfield.  Pipelines are already being installed head toward or away from that locale.  The processing facility is rumored to be operational sometime this year.

I had one guy tell me Wayne township showed a ton of promise from seismic testing. I was also told here that seismic testing can't really show how much is really there so I'm taking this is means the geology was good.
The permits and pads going in between sumittville and center is just amazing. Franklin township and Hanover are getting pads with 4-5-6 permitted wells at once. Wow! Of course my well in center only has one permitted but they are fracking my big friend right now :0)
I loved your post, thanks :0)
