Is the Upper Devonian accessible in Potter Co. Thanks for any info you can communicate.
I JUST concluded viewing a total site, maps, the works! Potter is a MAJOR fairway for Devonian Shale activity. The answer to your question is YES. Successful test wells have already been drilled focused on the Burket and Middlesex. We have source rock. This must be why 4-County South (McKean & Potter) has seen keen company interest in the production units put together by landowner members since NAPE. I'm elated to learn we've been sitting on a stacked potential reservoir all along, while slow goings kept folks focused on Marcellus which has never been Super.
I expect our shape files to continue expanding and the AUG. 4-County meetings to be very newsworthy.
They will be held AUG. 13, 2013, Tue. 6:30 @ U.P. Bradford, 300 Campus Dr. Bradford, PA --- ALSO---
AUG 14, 2013 Wed. 6:30 Shinglehouse Fire Hall, 121 Puritan Ave. Shinglehouse,PA
Hope you can make good use of this info. It surely pumped my adrenaline level up!

Great to hear. Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.
If only it was true. Potter County needs results, not cheerleaders. There hasn't been a profitable well in any of the shales Janice mentioned drilled anywhere in Potter County to date. It's not doing members of this forum a favor telling them stories that aren't accurate. The production data is all available on-line. Nobody has to take anyone at their word. Potter County will see better prices for leases and sales when it deserves them. And that will happen when something we actually have is proven to be profitable.
Jack,
How do you expect Janet to further her agenda without some serious hype, please don't be a nuisance by working in factual nonsense.
JB
I just wish she'd cite specific wells that she feels are profitable, or name the companies that are supposedly excited about leasing. Then everyone could check her claims for themselves. I'm not saying that there won't be interest in the county in the future, but it's not likely to be county-wide or offer the same sorts of bonuses and royalties promised during the Marcellus bubble. The prices have to match the potential before the industry is going to take another look at places like Potter County. Talking the prices up is just going to delay the day when we see interest from the industry again.
Jack,
Agreed....that would definitely make sense, maybe too much sense. I am just tired of all of the agenda driven hype.

Tim, you don't get the business. Or are you really Janice posting under another name? No substance, no evidence, nothing concrete or useful.
Source rock or material source sites. The info that indicated this region has much more in subsurface resources than some are willing to admit came from many sources. A partial listing: Marcelllus Drillling News (MDN), Energy in Depth, Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Range Resource site, Houston Chronicle, Associated Press, PennEnergy, etc..
Companies jumping on board to follow-up on early geological reports and test well findings, and have put their $$ where their mouths are EQT, Range, CONSOL, Rex, and who knows what firm will be next? SW Pennsylvania and our own region are part of this major fairway, with lesser findings in between.
If this is a fairy tale there are many professional sites and news outlets that need to be informed! ... and a good many more not even named.

I'm not putting any significant time or money into acquiring oil and gas rights in Potter County, and haven't since the results of the initial wave of drilling hit a couple years ago. I've shifted to Bradford and Susquehanna Counties, as those are where the geology is better and drilling is still profitable. I've done that in response to what's been reported - there's no money to be made in Potter County right now, and there may not be for many years. Wishing and hoping and pretending won't help, so I try to be realistic and practice what I preach. You might want to consider doing the same.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
