What's with all the wells popping up in northern Stark county ?

I have seen several wells showing up in stark county in the last couple of months near state route 62 , are they looking for oil? , what does this mean for the rest of Stark county?

The last Utica permit for Stark County was filed on 7/23/2012. Possibly Clinton wells?

Enervest is drilling horizontal clinton  wells in that area and having good returns ........thats what you are probably seeing if this plays out to be real good you will see alot more drilling all over northeast ohio into the clinton formation ....which holds alot of unrecovered oil from the original vertical wells drilled in the 70s and 80s

Saw several oil tankers in and out of the pad sites , good sign . Will southeastern stark county be in the same Clinton oil play ?

SE Stark is part of the East Canton oil field.  I'd bet you'll see more activity there.

Yep, and maybe better yet in my estimation, based on productivity of original Clinton wells.  That said, SE Stark County was oilier, and maybe horizontal Clinton will work better in areas that are relativley gassier.  It will all be interesting.

I wouldn't put it past Enervest to be dumb enough to drill expensive horizontal gas wells into a sandstone formation.

Maybe it's actually a smart technique ?

As I understand it the original Clinton Wells were recovering oil and gas from 'pools' within the strata. Maybe the entire sandstone formation is more like a sponge containing the resources. So, perhaps they're installing laterals and fracturing the strata targeting the entrapped resources no longer only looking for pools.

Can only imagine - don't know anything for sure - but the theory seems plausible to me the layman.

there are not pools of oil in the clinton the sandstone formation has oil all thru it ....before fracking the formation is like cement they originally drilled clintons on 40 acre units and did not come close to recovering all the oil in a 40 acre area even today they are only reaching out 500 feet from the bore on a Utica  well   .......DEXTER it is not near as expensive and enervest has had good returns on the first few they drilled in nw carroll county ......atleast 80% of the oil in the clinton has never been recovered it would be interesting to see if these new horizontal wells communicate with any old vertical wells in the area ...bringing new life to old wells .......in the 70s I seen a well drilled in the middle of 4 exsisting wells on a special 20 acre permit  and what they called back then a super frack was put on it and the old well to the southeast of it flowed over 200 barrel a day for 2 months

Mike, recovering oil from these wells is highly economical.  Someone mentioned that they may be more successful in gassier areas.  Recovery rate might be higher but if you think you can make money drilling complicated, unconventional gas wells right now then you should work for Enervest (not you specifically, just the editorial 'you').

I was at a Chamber of Commerce meeting a few weeks ago and the NGO president was a speaker. He said they were very pleased with their Horizontal Clinton well in Coshocton County.

Nice oily trend in the Clinton down there.  I'm still skeptical about the IRR on these wells, but I'll wait and see what the numbers are before making any judgments.
