It is not good. I have some land which combined with that of a number of neighbors total 3500 acres. An O&G company generally needs 10,000 contiguous or nearly contiguous acres to make leasing in an area worthwhile. Unfortunately prohibiting fracking on Pennsylvania Gamelands would prevent such an aggregation in my area. If Tom Wolf does what he says he is going to do I and my neighbors are screwed. It appears the people have elected another damned arrogant left-wing clown as governot who may turn out to be as bad for O&G in Pennsylvania as Cuomo as been for O&G in New York.
Samuel cool your jets. I detest Wolf as much as anyone. And you're right, he is another arrogant left-wing clown. This is true without question.
But Samuel:
Across the entire pantheon of Governors of States in these United States of America, few if any Governors are as bad as Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo ranks #1 in arrogance, #1 in stupidity, #1 in hatred for folks living outside cities, and #1 for being perhaps the most obvious jackass ever created by Almighty God.
Wolf is only just beginning his term. Sure he is really bad. But he will have to aggregate a significant number of negative "accomplishments" before even being mentioned in the same sentence with the all-time #1 failed Governor, Andrew Cuomo of New York, who is a raving idiot.
There is a misconception that the state forests are set up as a nature preserve and for recreational use. In fact, they were set up so that the the government can control how natural resources are used and extracted. At the turn of the previous century almost all trees in the Pa had been cut by the logging industry leading to a huge erosion and flooding problems. Coal and limestone mining also caused a lot of environmental problems. The state responded by establishing the state forests where they could control how much is removed and by what methods so as to limit damages.
However, like all things progressive, the system has been corrupted by the left as a way to take over total control of the state forests. They know by distorting the original intent of the state forests they can gain more control over the land and the people. This is one example of how they have succeeded.
get rid of the rest of the democrats in 2016. this guy wouldn't be governor if not for a corrupt pa attorney general, who a grand jury said should be indicted, working to shift opinion in wolf's favor.
David; I think that was court tested in the 1980s in the Allegheny Forests. It was ruled that the subsurface owners have the right to develop the oil fields there. Your bigger problem is getting a company interested with the depressed prices and lack of pipeline capacity, IMO
Found this:
Fracking companies that already have leases on public lands can continue to operate. And new leases may be signed to drill under land for which the state lacks "sub-surface" rights.

There is a US Supreme Court Ruling where this happened in Michigan - The State lost and had to pay the Leasee and Lease Holder damages.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
