Received a letter from Kinder Morgan yesterday concerning a proposed pipeline flowing through the SW corner of Orange Township in Carroll County OH. The letter references the Utopia East and Utopia West proposed pipelines. Has anyone else received this letter?

Yes, I recieved a letter yesterday. Our farm is on Gundy Ridge in North Township, Harrison Co.

We have talked with way back last summer and never heard anymore. We are in Rumley Township Harrison county. Wonder if it is back on?

Does anyone know if Kinder Morgan has applied for EPA approval yet?

Might give us a better idea of how fast these pipelines may become reality and if they are looking to commit the money sooner than later.

Has anyone else received an offer for an easement for laying this pipeline?

Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP, the Texas-based pipeline giant, is proceeding with a new pipeline to carry ethane from Ohio’s Utica shale to Ontario.

The company on Thursday announced the launch of a binding open season to solicit commitments for its previously announced Utica to Ontario Pipeline Access (UTOPIA).

It is designed to carry ethane and ethane-propane mixtures from the liquid-rich Utica shales in eastern Ohio.

The 12-inch-in-diameter, 240-mile pipeline would run from Harrison County to Kinder Morgan’s Cochin Pipeline near Riga, Mich. From there, the liquids could be moved east to Windsor, Ontario.

It would handle 50,000 barrels per day, growing to 75,000 barrels per day, said the Houston-based company.

The liquids would be processed in Ohio before being transported via the new pipeline.

The pipeline would be built and operated by Kinder Morgan Cochin.

The pipeline could, pending commitments by drillers and federal approval, be in service by early 2018.

“We are pleased to offer this proposal, which will complement our existing transportation solutions for natural gas liquids produced in the Utica,” said Don Lindley, president of natural gas liquids, products pipelines for KMP. “The UTOPIA project will enable us to continue to provide a pipeline transportation solution into the growing Ontario market.”

today announced that its subsidiary, Kinder Morgan Cochin LLC has signed a letter of intent with NOVA Chemicals Corporation (NOVA) to develop a new products pipeline from the Utica Shale. Under the agreement, Kinder Morgan Cochin will develop, construct, own and operate a 210-mile, 10-inch diameter pipeline from multiple fractionation facilities in Harrison County, Ohio, to Kinder Morgan’s Cochin Pipeline near Riga, Mich., where the company will then move product via Cochin east to Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

The proposed approximately $300 million Kinder Morgan Utica To Ontario Pipeline Access (UTOPIA) would transport previously refined or fractionated natural gas liquids (NGLs), including ethane and propane. The pipeline is expected to have an initial 50,000 barrels per day (bpd) of capacity, which is expandable to more than 75,000 bpd. A mid-year 2017 in-service date is anticipated, pending NOVA’s execution of a definitive agreement during the binding open season process (which is expected in 2014) and timely receipt of necessary permitting and regulatory approvals.

“We are excited to have this opportunity to continue to provide a pipeline transportation solution for the growing Ontario market,” said Don Lindley, president of Natural Gas Liquids Business Development. “This proposal will complement our existing transportation solutions for NGLs produced in the Utica, allowing producers to choose between mixed NGLs to the Gulf Coast or previously fractionated NGLs to nearby demand centers.” The project is expected to be immediately accretive to cash available to KMP unitholders upon completion.

The Cochin Pipeline is a multi-product pipeline consisting of approximately 1,900 miles of 12-inch pipeline operating between Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Windsor, Ontario. Cochin currently transports propane and ethane-propane mix to petrochemical and fuel markets in Ontario. Construction continues on the Cochin Reversal project, which will move light condensate from Kankakee County, Ill., (west of Riga) to existing terminal facilities near Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, beginning in July 2014.

What is Kinder offering per linear foot for UTOPIA pipeline?
The initial offer is for a 50 foot wide permanent right of way. The offer is for 2.7 acres at $8,625.00 per acre. This is for 2,349.02 feet which works out to $9.91 per foot. The offer for the 50 foot wide tempory work space is 2.6 acres at $2,587.50 per acre. According to the landman, a single 12 inch line is being laid. However, the agreement does not state in writing the size or the number of lines in the easement.
Mike here in the haynesville shale I talked with several landowners around 2009 all of them said do not take less than 500.00 a rod.. eventually got an interstate pipeline got around 750.00 a rod.hope this helps.
Is there a landowner group which is working to join forces to negotiate with Kinder on the Utopia line? Their initial offer is insultingly low.

There is no landowner group that I am aware of. No one else has come forward on this website to let me know that they have received an offer and for how much.
