PG Powersource has a good article on the hows and whys companies and are using more sand and getting much better results. Something we at GMS have been discussing for a long time.

This has always been an issue for the industry - adding sand raises costs but will improve production up to a point. Put too much sand in, however, and the formation screens off and you get the sand back. The additional flowback sand being reported these days suggests that some people have been overdoing it on these shale wells. But it sounds like they weren't pushing the envelop before, and that wasn't good either. The big question in fracing has been how much sand you can ad before the costs outweigh the increased production or the production goes into reverse. It's good to see the industry trying to work out the optimal amounts in these shales.

Thanks for sharing this piece Jim.  All facets of technology, the new methods that allow meaningful development of PA's O&G, are welcome ... esp. on our home turf.  Have you been following PGE's Utica progress in Keating?  Potter and McKean have become "happening" locations.  Touch base when you can.
