I travel back to Eastern Ohio from Columbus and back to Columbus.

WOW! Thanks, Dodge Charger!! You really have shed a lot of light on why there has been no drilling on the land, that we were told at the count recorder's office, was a real "hot" spot". This was told to me and my brothers when we went to record the lease with Shell in 2011. We have been bewildered as to why no activity, in the 4 years since we signed our lease, on an area, that was supposedly so "rich".
We also, had to hire an attorney six months ago to verify we were indeed the owners of our mineral rights. K&R Conservation, who owns the land but we own 88 acres of the mineral rights, had put claims to our rights and we found out about this and took legal action against K&R. Now I am wondering if that move was connected to the info you just passed on to me. They tried to use the "abandonment of rights" to acquire our rights and a list of other mineral rights holders, in our section and the sections around ours. We are in section 21, Twp. 11, Range 7, in Londonderry Twp. I am not aware if the other mineral rights owners, listed on their legal "rights of abandonment" suit are even aware K&R Conservation took this legal step against them, to claim their rights, also.
This doesn't sound good for us or the others owning just the mineral rights and not owning the land. The land owners get paid to have the drilling done on their property but it must not be enough $$ for K&R Conservation. It sounds to me, from what you have shared, and correct me if I'm wrong, it is probably K&R holding up future drilling progress on the property, I hold the mineral rights to. Would you agree? Is your Dad's property and minerals included in the K&R Conservation property? I know K&R owns a lot of acreage.
I so very much appreciate you taking your time for me and explaining, to a pretty good certainty, why nothing has been happening with my lease with AEU.
Do you think anything can/will be done to move this dispute along? We have one more year on our lease with AEU. I hope things will get settled by then or AEU probably won't re-lease with us.
Please let me know if you hear anything else in the future.
nc man
I can tell you that it has been quite some time -- and I do not have any idea just how long -- since the road upgrade, stripping of trees, and my dad talking to a landman. However, it does seem to fit that 'they' were ready to drill but found out the people that THOUGHT they owned the minerals in actuality did not.
No, my dad's property is five miles or more away, so he's not anywhere near that land. Your situation may, or may not be why there has yet to be any activity. As was pointed out previously, it has slowed down considerably with the drop in oil prices. FWIW, I saw an article that T Boone Pickens said oil would be back to $100 / barrel by end of year.
Good luck with your rights!

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
