$1.73/mcf actually isn't that out of range for that area.  The differentials in the Appalachian Basin are murder right now.  Anywhere from $.50 to $1.25 depending on pipeline takeaway.

If Chesapeake wants to move their holdings, it would help if they included the fact that you really don't have to follow the leases of the County Landowners, and if you want, you can stop paying a royalty.

As Chesapeake's VP was quoted in Farm & Dairy weekly news, Sept 2013: "It's a good business practice not to pay landowner royalties, then go to court and only pay what the judge orders". Can you say CHK runs an Ethical Business?  I knew you couldn't.

Ron, that's pretty condemnatory stuff.  Nobody here supports the scoundrels at Chesapeake.  But with something that censorious you have to give us more proof, preferably a link, to provide a basis for something so outrageous and to show us the man's statement in context.

Just for openers:  What is the name of the Chesapeake VP you are quoting?

I have tried to look up the September 2013 issue of Farm & Dairy here on the net.  That publication is not so great when it comes to archival material.  If you have a paper copy of the publication available to you, perhaps you could scan the article and post it.  I'm sure most of us would be very, very interested.

I wonder if CHK is trying to dump their barely used regional offices and facilities in Athens, PA also. I have family in that area and from what I'm told the top 3 stories of the brand new Offices have never been used and that the main floor is only sparsely staffed. Any activity from CHK for nearly the past year has been in the far south eastern portion of Bradford Co. and the other counties in that area.

CHK invested heavily in the Bradford, Susquehanna County areas and really took a hit when the gas market crashed. They had a lot invested in NY too prior to the moratorium and eventual complete ban of HVHF. Talisman had a strong lease hold in NY also and I believe they had picked up the option on some of those NY Friendsville leases. Good for those landowners. Bad for Talisman obviously though.

I'll bet the Northern areas that are being suggested as included in this sale only have 1 or two wells drilled and that they were drilled early on in this play. Newer tech could yield better results. If I was leased to CHK and included in what is being offered I'd be hoping SWN is interested. They have been one of the best and most active operators over the past few years in these areas.

Chesapeake has confirmed that this is indeed northern acreage as far as Bradford county is concerned.

the acreage in this offering is in 2 townships in northeast Bradford, which tells me that talisman/repsol is the operator of most if not all of the wells.

further they (chk) are in the process of evaluating the rest of their northern Bradford acreage to see what goes next. also, they will be selling off mostly undeveloped acreage in several other counties.
