Reads to me like there are two (2) Bills involved - one being of a composite sort; opening up more offshore exploration and development also power generation and geothermal incentives; and the other the one that lifts the ban on crude oil export.

Being a landlubber - personally - I'm most interested in these Bill's affect on landside exploration & production / development. Better to me would be if offshore and geothermal incentives weren't involved.

It was a Panel approval and it reads to me like they (both Bills) still need to be debated and voted on by both the House and Senate then sent on to the President for / execution / enactment or perhaps veto.

Also read that no Dems. on the Panel voted for the Bill that lifts the crude export ban (for whatever that's worth or not worth).

 

However, the composite Bill had bi-partisan support according to the article.

Still and unfortunately it reads to me like a long row to hoe for both; although, the article seemed more enthusiastic / optimistic about the composite Bill's destiny.

 

Geothermal bothers me in that (it seems to me) if it finally burgeons / gains momentum; it would further hamper more natural gas development.  Also, wondering about geothermal downsides myself.  First it's very expensive to implement right now as I understand it - a lot of plumbing involved.  If subsidized it would consume support away from Natural Gas.  Also, what happens if a huge commitment to geothermal starts cooling off the earth's magma too fast - could it be problematic regarding earthquakes for instance ?  Anybody look into that one I wonder ?

Anybody else have any ideas or interpretations ?
