Trying to get as many neighbors to go as possible. Many don't use the internet so most go by what they "hear".  Hopefully some will get "informed".

I'd say about 100 people showed up.  The slide presentations are on the Penn State Ext's website which I had already looked at. The Penn State attorney  was excellent. He spoke in layman's terms and was well spoken. He gave some good advice. Quite a bit of the information I had already gathered from GMS, Penn State, and other websites. For the newbie, it would have been a lot of info to take in, in a couple of hours.

I would be careful of only looking at the dollar amount for royalty and bonus payments.  Although those are very important factors to consider when deciding whether to lease, there are other factors you must take into consideration.  Remember the lease is written to protect the oil company, not the landowner or mineral rights owner.  Also, there are a number of clauses and provisions that should and must be included in addendums that will protect your current and future interests.

Landowner groups are great, but realize that your needs may not be identical to your neighbors.  Your lease should be catered to you specifically.  There are attorneys out there who are dedicated to the landowner from start to finish.   I wish I could give you specifics, but this site is not the right forum.  You should google those who handle marcellus disputes.

Steve- we went over most of your concerns at the Mercer Extension office seminar. It was very good stuff! The attorney that talked was most helpful with suggestions. I have since attended a "group" meeting that includes western Crawford county and northwestern Mercer county. The leaders seemed very well organized and well informed. Another meeting is scheduled in Oct. sometime. No details yet.
